Unexpected Encounter...
After I was raped by a bouncer at my favourite bar, I forced myself to continue going back. I've written about it in past journals, it was something I needed to do to empower myself. I gradually stopped going once I had dealt with the trauma and moved away from the party scene, but I always expected to see him there. I always went in with the mindset that I would see him somewhere, and I learned to cope with that.
He lives in North Vancouver ... The bar was in Pitt Meadows ... I live in Coquitlam ... I had seen on his Facebook page before (again, there's a journal) that he was working security at a mall right beside my office, in Burnaby... I began to expect that I would see him there.
I did not expect to see him working security at the grocery store up the road from my house. I recognized him instantly... My husband was with me, we walked in, and I commented on the fact that he's now a grocery store bouncer instead of a bar bouncer, with an uncomfortable chuckle. My husband's response was "was that the asshole?" Followed with "I knew I recognized him..." And an immediate "do you want to leave?" That was the best thing he could have said. We didn't leave, we did our shopping and made fun of him (coping mechanisms present in various forms). It was an unexpected encounter that I suppose I now know to expect... I didn't have an anxiety attack, get upset or emotional. I stared him in the eye as he said "hey guys" and walked past.
