What to do with a toxic person in your close family? She always criticises me and brings me down. She comments on my hair, my clothes, lifestyle, everything's wrong with me. She doesnt understand that i'm an adult and have my own life.
You can\'t do anything to change somebody but if you change, they will have to change too or you will no longer consider maintaining a relationship with them.
I have a couple of people as you describe in my family, just used to put me down and be downright horrible. They still try but I am not interested. They can say whatever they like, I don\'t respond back. MY g.ma told me at my sister\'s wedding that I was \'naked\'!! I had a knee-length dress on and a bolero to cover my shoulders. Everyone said I looked great. Pathetic envious bitter old woman she is. Tries to bring others down so she can feel superior. My aunt is the same.
You can\'t change them; change your attitude and don\'t give them the time of the day. They are entitled to their opinion but it\'s up to you whether you internalise it or not. After all, it\'s just their opinion, you don\'t have to make it your belief!
Spend your valuable time with people that appreciate you and make you feel good; dump the energy vampires!
oh my goodness, this is why we women end up getting into abusive relationships in the first place; we are constantly criticized and boxed in----many time it emanates first from the home, which conditions us to accept it in society. Women are not exempt from perpetuating this on other women---if all women said \"no\" to devaluing types of behavior, sexism wouldn\'t stand a chance.
I agree with what Amazon said: you can\'t change these people. they are locked in their own ignorance. Best simply avoid them. I have two brothers I avoid, because they are a blight on my happiness. I still love them, but I don\'t like them and avoid them.
