The Greatest man I ever Knew
I know I have posted something similar on an old account but I think its worth posting again even if it's just for me. My grandpapa was the greatest man I ever knew. He was kind and loving and giving, and always there to bail me out of whatever fuckery I had gotten myself into. I should mention I was the first of twelve grandgirls. He fought in Viet Nam and came back a little messed up, he never would talk about it but I know as his six kids were growing up he was an alcoholic, by the time my mom was born most of that was over and he was on his way to being a recovering addict. However, the other five children vividly remember the abuse inflicted on them by there father, going to school with black eyes etc. In today world all the children would have been taken out of the home, but this was a time when you didn't interfere with another man's business. He was a mean drunk, but I never knew that man. The man I know would buy struggling moms months or groceries or let her have one of his rentals dirt cheap, he attended church every Sunday and gave them the proper amount for his income as donation, To me, he was the Greatest man I ever knew. So people can change and I try to keep that in mind in the job that I do. Sometimes life is just hard and you deal the only way you know how. But it doesn't mean you can't change, you can't be better. I truly believe that my grandpapa spent the rest of his life trying to make amends for a past he regretted and was ashamed of.
