The Day
Today is the Permanency Hearing to decide the next step in the welfare of the three children who automatically became Wards of the State the minute their parents died on September 21st, 2019. I am imagining that Hubby had an equally rough night in The Middle Aged Child Retirement Center our Urban Homestead was repurposed for. Are the dependant bachelors at least helping him psych-up for the court appearance or taking advantage of his fragile condition to further their own agendas? The still young children here on the farm have been remarkably un-curious about Gampy's absence, but the restless cries and disturbances which punctuated the night might have spoken their curiosity more eloquently than childish questions.
And there goes Baby Sis. . . Again. . . No rest for the weary. . . Again I feel the bite of being isolated with agitated children. It still sucks.
Big Bro spent most of the night choking for breath and drinking obscene amounts of juice in an effort to wash the blockage from his throat. It is the first time I have seen him like this. I last left him watching cartoons and continuing the deep breathing exercises I have been doing with him since the excessive juice drinking started sloshing ominously in his 6 year old tummy. I will take his pulse to see if he got enough rest through the night to handle school today.
The good news is that the hearing is early this morning. We should have the verdict before lunch. Prayers in progress.

Praying and sending strength for you Arfie.
Thanks guys. Both needed and appreciated.
With Gampy on the speaker phone while he drove to the courthouse, we held a breakfast table conference and decided to skip school today. Big Sis was a bit put out with the decision but graceful enough in going with the flow rather than forcing the three sickies into the truck for the sake of getting her to school. I doesn't know but I does believe we made the right call. Rest is a productive activity, after all.
A short while after the decision was made, Big Bro came out of his room and stated, "I like our new house so much that I am afraid somebody will take it away from me."
"I know what you mean, my Prince," I answered with a hug. "Let's keep our prayers going."
So glad Big Bro loves the new house so much, arfie. He's been through such loss it's no wonder he's afraid of losing it, too. Looking forward to when he knows he can trust to embrace it as his own. Prayers ongoing re the Permanency Hearing's outcome.
Big hug sweetie...… I'm so glad that he's happy with his new abode..... I hope that trust will soon be something he can know as well as the rest of the children...… I also hope that you can have some peace within your family Arf without the extra stress you've been going through.... You remain in my prayers …..xo
I feel borderline guilty for letting him love the house so much before we know the outcome of today's hearing. *They* really can take it away from him. Without him in it, this house is way too big and permanent for this River Pirate wannabe.
Hubs texted that the courtroom was over-crowded and the judge is holding a private(?) session this afternoon. The message triggered flashbacks --almost *just* ugly memories-- of my own birth clan attending court dates in the "Halls of Just Ice" in all their quarrelsome glory. It took me decades to be able to mention a traffic ticket, even to my best beloved sis. Am I unforgivably wicked for hoping my son's in-laws put on a similar show in today's proceedings? Proof available that they have similar quantities for the production.
Healing hopes for all. No exceptions.
sending prayers and good kharmic wishes!
I.F. we are translating correctly, our little ship of fools is still on course. "Managing Conservatorrship" has been given to CPS as a stepping stone to Hubs and I adopting the GKs. We are under no delusion that we are likely to be able to see them to the end --at best, I will be 83 when Baby Sis graduates from HS-- but we believe we can stabilize the situation and the adoption will allow us greater flexibility in seeking long term solutions.
Gampy is en route back to the farm. He should be back in the saddle by sunset.
What the fuck have I gotten myself into this time?
Dunno, but for now, the house sure is peaceful. The 19 chicks in the guest room might be almost as in love with our new porch as we are. Maybe. The GKs have been enthralled with watching the decking crew work today and using every available inch whenever possible, even with the chicken shit. The feather babies made it off the porch to the wet ground below. Adapt quickly, my little feather beauties. Purty as you are, you need to find another wall to shit on. The wall under the window ledge is offensive, even to me, and I smoke.
Arfie,
I am assuming the outcome was good? I am so glad Big Bro likes his new house.
Thanking God, you and hubby and the amazing way the two of you have provided such a full life and structured for the greatest good of all concerned!!
Hope grandson hit the ball out of the park and made a home run....you and hubby sure have!
I’m glad that it was a good outcome. I know it’ll be hard for you but in your heart you know the kids need this. Biggest hugs and best wishes for you all ( including the feather babies lol)
I'm assuming the outcome was good. I have studied languages my entire life and still can't make heads nor tails of legalese in any of those languages.
My understanding of the day is that all five of us get to stay in our new house indefinitely. We are still encouraging our son's in-laws to be involved in the children's lives, but we are not holding our breath since it has been made clear to them the children will not be their personal benefits package. I'm betting dollars to wishes we never hear from them again. Just betting. . .
Only time will tell and if that’s the case maybe it’s for the best. Hard on the kids though and less time off for you if so. Maybe they will show an side of themselves that will surprise. Fingers crossed x
Glad to hear that the legalese points to having had a good outcome from the hearing, arfie.
Indeed, indeed, only time will tell. More waiting. . . Good gourd, I hate waiting! ! ! Still! ! ! Even with all the practice The Gnarly Old Dickhead keeps sending me, I still hate waiting. WHERE ARE MY PERMANENT MICROWAVE SOLUTIONS! ! !
Sigh. . .
Studying. . .
