Sad times
There are nine more moms (at least) who are mourning the loss of their children. There was a collision between a semi and a bus carrying a hockey team to a playoff game. The players were in their late teens and early 20s.
I have been somewhat stresed. A very good friend and former colleague had a bad fall. She knocked herself out and was rushed to the hospital. They were worried about concussion so did an MRI and CAT scan of her head and sent her home. She suffered for 3 weeks before the doctor finally ordered and Xray of her neck. I was with her at the appointment - we had to ask the doc for the Xray. Her doctor is nice but when someone comes in with a hard time straightening her neck and having trouble swallowing, you'd think a neck exam would be in order. The first time she visited her doc after the accident, he told her to drink more water. We took her for her Xray and that afternoon, the doctor called her and told her to call an ambulance and go to the hospital. She lives in a small city about an hour and a half from here. The next call I got was less than an hour later, from the ambulance bringing her to Calgary - she had 2 broken vertebrae. She had surgery and is convalescing at home now. She has to have a 'halo' on for 12 weeks. It is an apparatus that holds her head in position. I don't know how she sleeps! We have excellent specialists here, thank goodness.
Other than that, it has been a bit depressing - winter is driving me crazy. It is supposed to warm up this week. Our tulips and daffodils shoud be coming up. Instead it has been snowing for 2 days. It looks like the dead of winter.
Oh well, I give my head a shake when I think of the families who have lost their children.

Yes, that was news here too - so terribly sad. No making sense of any of it - one day starts off like any other but by the end of it, everything has changed forever in the worst way possible. My thoughts and prayers to all the families - may they find some kind of peace, eventually.

I'm so sorry...Believe it or not, it's chilly all the way down here in Florida as well. Holidays are so hard. Fortunately, Easter was not a big one for us, heathens that we are, so I got through it pretty well. I'm sorry you were so sad...you should never have a sad moment. I don't know if it helps, but I love you dearly.
That kind of news always takes my breath away. Such a tragic loss and will alter each and every life behind forever. Deepest of sighs...
Hoping your friend heals and that the sunshine and warmer days will be yours. We are warm, yet very soggy for the past few days. Mother Nature keeps keeping up her heels, I believe.
I had many Easter memories fill my heart as well dearest Marlene and as I write this I can hear one of our loudest birds here on the island singing his song. Hi, Lisa!
Loving care dearest Marlene and I'll certainly miss not seeing Joe and you at the retreat this year. You are such an important presence, yet I certainly understand with your big 50th anniversary trip you are taking.

I too, had to breathe deeply when I heard of the bus crash.....immediately my heart is heavy knowing what those parents are facing and will face the rest of their lives.....We are all so affected by it. I'm sorry, Marlene
I have many Easter memories as well - always a sad day for me without my Jennifer.

It is heartbreaking about the team in the bus crash. I read today that they mistakenly identified one as dead and one as alive but had the two mixed up. I will miss you at retreat this year, I did not know that you are not coming. We woke up to snow covered cars this morning and all I could think is "you gotta be kidding me" LOL. Supposed to warm up later this week though. XOXO

The holidays are a tender time, I think. As time passes I find them gentler, but still sad.

Marlene if I could kidnap you and get you to FL for a good thaw, that would be great. I heard about the bus with the kids in it, my heart breaks for the moms of these young men. I do hope your friend is doing ok, it is so hard to come back from a bad fall like she had. Time will tell and how much pain she will have during the change of weather.

I think when we hear of other horrors such as this accident, it brings our heartache to the front of our minds as we truly do know what these Moms feels. Life is just so very hard. Wishing for a speedy recovery for your friend. I too want winter over, planted more spring flowers yesterday as we had a little warm up, but today it is 40 degrees less. Sending you a hug today. My heart broke when I read the news on FB about the accident. Just beyond sad... Many prayers and much love energy to all suffering from this tragedy.
OMG!!! You're poor friend....broken vertebrae for 3 weeks before being discovered!! Bless her!! Prayers for her healing and recovery process for sure.
We've had a very LONG winter...lots of rainy, cold days/nights...even way down here in GA. I can be very depressing. I so imagine still getting snow is even a tougher situation to push a smile through! Here's to hoping we both see some sunny, warm days soon.
