re-write on first part and a little more
My journey with NIA
My name is Ann and I would like to share my journey with NIA. I was feeling very isolated, withdrawn from friends, suffering with badly distorted body image due to my battle with anorexia. I decided to take a step and find a place where women gather and I started searching under yoga and found the NIA-YOGA CENTER. it looked interesting soi called Casey Berstein and inquired about NIA. she asked me what I was looking for and I was upfront with her and tld her about my eating disorder and what i was going through. She said this is the place for you. so the journey began...
I was apprenshive about going but was welcomed with open arms and kindness. I was wearing a baggy t-shirt and even with the warm welcome I was very uneasy and tense. At this point in my I was stuggling, my eating disorder thoughts fought against nia and i was basically there for the exercise.
A class I went to about 3 weeks in was a terrrible experience for me. We lined up in front of the mirror and were to tell ourselves I love you. well, one glance and i started crying, I backed off for the rest on the time. After class Casey and I talked and this is when she suggested i journal my experiences and i have found that to be very helpful to me. I struggled for quite some time with looking at myself and not hating what I saw. Amazingly, even during this period I always felt so much better when NIA was finished. That is what kept me coming to try and find what my journey was going to be.
A very special class happened I finally took that baggy t-shirt off and wear the tank top. iI was very self concious and felt everyone was looking at me. After class, Casey approached me and congrtualted my on wearing the tank top and what a huge step that was for me, saying how difficult it must of been. She placed her hands on her heart and siad to me how proud she was of me. I am constantly amazed and touched by the many comments i recieve, the room is full of kindness and light. Even though I was so touched by these comments I didnt yet believe them internally. I kept telling myself that this process takes time and let NIA work its way through me. At this point my focus started to change.
