Physio

Had a pretty productive couple of days. Yesterday went well at the volunteer centre. I should be able to get placed for a couple of evenings a week with St. Giles Hospice. They are a charitable organisation funded by the NHS that provides care for terminally ill / seriously disabled people and their families. No doubt it will be challenging, but I am looking forward to it. Also should be able to get a couple of mornings a week when i do my night shifts. Looks like I'll be driving a mini-bus for a local charity that provides transport for the blind and also the elderly. Quite pleased with that and should well and truly keep me out of trouble :)
This morning i went to my latest physio therapy appointment. I have a new therapist. Seems like a really nice chap and is from Donegal in Ireland. I have a good friend from Wicklow near Dublin which I mentioned to him and we seemed to hit it off. He gave me a couple of new exercises to strengthen my lower spine around the weakness/injury. All is looking good and today is a great day to be sober. Just off out on the last run of the week. Take care everyone and hope you have a great day :)

Ahhhh....so that answers my question as to what the physio is for.
Sounds like you have tons of good things lined up. As I\'ve mentioned to you before hospice/palliative care is my passion. I\'m so happy that you are going to be giving your time to something so worthwhile:))

Great that you followed through on seeking volunteer opportunities as a way to shake up your routine. What you have chosen may likely be tough at times, but I bet rewarding and satisfying. Also sounds like your commercial driver license is coming in handy? At least in the US you\'d need a CDL to drive folks around in a van. Keep us posted...

BTW, I need to find a chiropractor. My neck and upper back have gotten out of whack the last couple of weeks.

Hello Tex. Seek help initially from a chiropractor for short term relief, but i would look at getting physio therapy long term. I went to a chiropractor early doors and although it did help a bit. The issue never improved that significantly. Also it\'s bloody expensive!!!! 3 sessions down with Physio Therapy and already I can feel the difference. You don\'t get Chiropractors on the NHS here as they are basically treated as witch doctors by the Medical Profession. I\'m not saying they won\'t help, but keep your options open. I got really down in the beginning and was self medicating with alcohol to relieve the pain. Of course that just sent things in a downward spiral and never helped in the slightest. If only I had done physio to begin with I might not be on my own now :( . If\'s buts and maybe\'s eh???? Probably one of the hardest things to deal with while recovering. What might have been........

Excellent advice. Actually, this same thing happened a year or so ago. The chiro said where my ribs connect to the spine between the shoulder blades were out of alignment. He did one heavy push there and the biggest sigh/groan of relief did come out of me. And indeed, after that I did go to PT and it got much better.

With this relapse, I have been trying to do the exercises PT gave me, but they are not helping, so thinking get the alignment and then do the PT on my own again. Should have never stopped those exercises, but drink, yadda, yadda, drink, drink, drink...

Also, there was a time when chiro was not covered in the US either but it has been now for years.

It helps to share info. Chiro then PT sounds like the right choice for you. Hope it eases off. Nerve pain is something I wouldn\'t wish it on anyone. I could hardly walk for 2 weeks when my back gave in the first time. It\'s the one time i have cried in my life due to physical pain. I played Rugby when I was younger so I\'m no stranger to injuries, but this pain was on another level. Good luck with your treatment plan :)

Yeah and drink never does anything to help lol :)
