Perpetual flashbacks - posted in forum
I've recently been in counseling for a completely unrelated matter, my small dog (who has been my baby for the past 12 years) was attacked by raccoons - fortunately he survived & has made a full recovery.. But the therapy to help me process and cope with the incident has happened to bring up old traumas that I haven't thought of in ages... I'm 23 now..and when I was 12 I was sexually assaulted by a 21 year old man. It took me until I was 18-19 to finally see a therapist (the same one I'm seeing now) and I finally faced my PTSD and began to move on with my life. I haven't thought of that incident in years, and I haven't had a flashback in so long... But now, suddenly they're back, and I'm transported back to when I was that innocent little girl who was violated... I feel what i felt. During. Afterwards. I was scared, ashamed, guilty, depressed and severely suicidal. I find myself thinking more and more about what happened to me back then and how badly it effected me... I'm finding it hard to stay in the present moment sometimes. I know I've grown since then, and I've conquered a lot and I'm so much stronger...but flashbacks take you back, and there's nothing that can be done, not really anyways...
