Pecans
The holidays are coming...it used to be my favorite time of the year, Cassi's too. Last year I just did my best to ignore the holidays, I suppose I will this year as well.
Holidays are not holidays without Cassi, Life is not life without Cassi.
When she was in kindergarten I had a part time receptionist job and didn't make very much money at all. I had a natural knack for baking so I began making and selling cakes to make a little extra money. I did a few wedding cakes, birthday cakes, etc. but my biggest sellers were around the holidays when I would make old-fashioned home-made cakes...sometimes I would be working over 12 hours at a time to get my orders out...a LOT of Red Velvets, Butternuts, Lane Cakes...lots of cakes that required pecans. I was always on the look-out for good deals on large quantities of pecans because they were too expensive to buy in the grocery store. I would buy gallons of them from little old ladies in the country but I never seemed to have enough. One day Cassi came home from school all excited with a gift for me. She pulled out 3 pecans from her little pocket and told me she had found themĀ on the playground. Turns out, during recess she had been scouring the ground under an ancient pecan tree for pecans and had finally found some for me. I still have those pecans...in a plastic bag, in a box of treasures.
That was My Cassi.

This little story shows what a charming, thoughtful little girl she was. I am so very sorry for your loss. It is still very recent for you. I hope we remain friends for a long time, life does change and shape us. There is no road map, and we do the best we can. I imagine your husband would like some holiday back, and your family........if the energy is available. (I do very little lately). Love, abby
Holidays are hard. I am better able to appreciate Richard\'s efforts to keep the spirit of the holidays alive in our home. Poor love he does almost all the work; putting up the tree, decorating it and the house. I do the cooking and cleaning.
I love picturing Cassi\'s earnest efforts to help her mama. Brings a smile to my heart to picture her.
that is the cutest pecan story I\'ve ever read... thanks for sharing...love ya!
Awwww how precious! Always thinking of her mommy!
What gift you have if you can make all those delicious cakes! Makes me hungry just thinking about them!
Holidays are very tough...approach them one day at a time...do what feels right for you,
Love and hugs...Karen
The holidays are the pitts for me. My Mike died 12/20 so as you can imagine I do not Christmas. The granddaughters will decorate the tree and when I come home they make me close my eyes till they walk me into the living room to show me the beautiful tree. A new tradition I will not decorate the tree, when they get older and move away I assume no tree will be put up.
Your baking sounds so good, I am trying to do more baking each year. The twins are willing to learn, they are 10 now this is a good time to teach them new skills.
Go easy on yourself, this is not an easy path we wonder down. Remember you have all of us to help you.
Tight hugs Penny

Precious indeed that she would have hunted and shared her treasures with you.
These are the memories that you can rest and smile within. I will have a new memory myself now around pecans which I love. Pecan pie was one of my dad\'s all time favorites! :)
Loving care,
XO Joanie
thanks for reading my journal. my fireplace is a pure joy. you\'re right! i love to watch the fire and meditate!
i\'m so sorry for the loss of your sweet daughter. i understand your sadness. when my brother passed away so young and handsome, i was devastated. next month he\'s been gone for 5 years already. i finally came to a place where i lifted myself up and now i do EVERYTHING with him in my heart. it\'s how he would have wanted it to be. this year i\'m going to decorate a Christmas tree for him, because he\'s not here to do it anymore. i believe that he is watching. i take a walk for him, i rest at night and say a prayer to him in Heaven. loss is so difficult. i know that your dear Cassie is with my brother, so we are kindred spirits. i will say a prayer for you today and ask that your heart begins to heal. i\'m glad that you are on DS and reaching out. it is a very healing site to me. i hope that you find it to be also. much love to you today.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful and priceless story of dear Cassi!
Tight hugs as these hard dates approach, Leda
Holidays are brutal. I didn\'t decorate for 3 years. We went to the coast one year. I sat out in the cold watching the waves crashing on rocks.
Love to you and your beloved Cassi.
Tight hugs, M
