Odds and ends

We have had some very cold weather lately which is not unusual for where I live. Last week the night time temps were below zero nearly every day.  From 9 below to 16 below…I woke up to frost on the windows that looks like trees.

It has warmed up the last few days with temps in the low 30’s. Very comfortable compared to last week. Looked out the window at a long, skinny, icicle hanging off the roof and a tiny bird landed on it and slowly slid down to the bottom of it and drank the drops of water falling off the pointed end as it melted..  I wished I had my camera at the time.

I had never seen a possum in this area until today. They were never known for being this far north.. We saw one eating seeds on the ground below our bird feeders today. He walked gingerly on the snow. I don't think he liked the snow at all...The possum was quite sociable. He walked up the steps on the front deck and stood in front of the door as if to say hello. So we opened the door and said hello back and then we gave him some food out of the kitchen.

Our dog is finally home from the doggy hospital where he spent 5 nights.  We call him our miracle dog and that's a story for another journal because it's quite long.  He is still on medication but is doing extremely well and gaining every day.

Thankyou JeanCarlin We get just about everything for animals out here where we live and I have to take my bird feeders down at the end of the day or they will be destroyed by coons while we are asleep.. Then we hang them out in the morning again after adding more food...
Out of all the birds we have, the Cardinals are the prettiest. and we have 3 pairs of those.

Thankyou malibumark The last few weeks of January were very rough. It was a labor of love, I guess. The vet saved his life which was a miracle because I never thought he was smart enough to even figure out the problem. He was my vet because he was cheap. The most important lesson I learned through all of this was to never use past experience to determine future outcome. I was aware of that from my spiritual studies and was careful not to do that so we just prayed every day and put him in the Hands of God and I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. but I'll talk more about it at a later date. Hope things are going well for you.

Thankyou Chris198I, That's so very true. The thought of not being able to play our games behind the house really saddened me in the beginning but today he ran through the snow and he was jumping and playing for the first time in a month because he felt good and that made me so happy.!

March madness is just around the corner and I can't wait! .

Thankyou Mid! Yes I get so much entertainment out of just observing the animals around me. Nature is so amazing to me.
I am enjoying winter but I look forward to spring when everything comes up new again :-)

Nice post. A pleasure to read. It's not quite so cold in Birmingham (UK) - about 50F maximum mid 30s minimum.
