my lucky stars (aw how sappy sweet!)
i tried to join another support group for bpd partners/family members. it was on yahoo, and it had hundreds of members. but the tone of the discussions were bitter. people talked about their SOs's behaviors in a condescending manner. i really didn't like it. while i do realize that it is important to be able to vent about someone or something that is bothering you (and obviously it can't be vented at the pwbpd!), i just didn't get a good vibe from the group. to me it seemed negative and full of complaints. and when you're looking for support, i just don't see how that kind of sentiment can help with the coping process. but maybe i'd hit a rough night for the group. still, i like to stick with my gut instinct, and stay away from what seemed like bpd "bashing."
in learning about other people's situations, i've come to realize that while my partner may not be willing to accept that he has a disorder, he has shown to be insightful when i validate his feelings. in comparison to what some others say they have experienced with their SOs or exes, i think i just may be on the milder side of the disorder. only trouble is, from what he tells me, my SO is a runner--he'll run from the relationship if it gets bad. vanish. poof! or at least that's what he says. but he's also said other things that have sounded tougher than they actually were. he's human. i'm guilty of that, too, so hopefully he's not gonna up-and-disappear.
anyhow, what's on my mind is that i feel lucky. i feel lucky that this is the first support group i found, because it isn't focused on only the negative aspects of being in a relationship with a pwbpd. because, ultimately, i DO want to be with my mate. and i feel lucky that i came to understand bpd, and that what i have learned just in this short span of time has helped me considerably in coping with my situation, even though i currently still talk on eggshells and have exercised a great deal of patience. but i'm working on that. and i'm hoping that he'll be ready to work on himself soon...
the end!
p.s. i'm sure i'll be ranting and venting online again soon. i just feel very optimistic today. i'm not bipolar! i'm just flowing with my boyfriend's emotional tides.
