Money day
So both the roofer and the electrician are mad at me today. Its money day and I am not parting with any. In the roofers case the enitre job was to have been done in a week, the week is past he is about 1/3 of the way complete. He requested a partail payment, i agreed conditional on the work getting to a certain point. He left early today and wanted tobe paid, work is not at agreed point .. No payment. He's upset but he'l get over it, maybe tomorrow he will get there.
Electrician is hilarious. He demanded an advance which i refused. Compromise was payment after a certain milestone. Show of faith on my part since i dont think the milestone is worth what hes asking. Anyhoo he was here 2 days, went off to someone elses job then showed up at 5 to collect! REALLY! After seven years of this I still dontget why these guys think I havea money tree inmy back yard.
Mason wanted money too andi would have given it to him if I had it but did not. My son and I wre scrounging for coins today to buy lunch. Have not beenfeeling so sturdy so have not left home in the last 2 days.
These little incidents always make me wonder if I'm being unreasonable. I dont hink so though.. I think the industry runs on poor work ethic and the feeling it is their right to collect on a Friday evening regardless of how much work was done... Sigh!

well you know how it is.......some industries have a set advance and some don\'t. we have to be very careful as homeowners not to overpay too much while a job is being done. i have a tendency to keep my eyes pretty close on the budget and i also had my daughter get the supplies and total receipts, etc.
one of my contractors wrote nothing down and then wanted to demand higher payment at the conclusion of the job. we told him if he presented up with a break out of added work and/or any work receipts he was not reimbursed for but other wise we stood firm on our own receipts and hours worked.
at one point, i got a new frig during the reno.......the frig delivery guys damaged my door frame and i ended up having to replace the whole thing,not just the frame, but the french doors too.........that got pretty hairy, but again stood firm and got it handled equitably.
i know it\'s hard.........you\'re doing your best. if the roofer has the materials he needs and promised you a seven day completion than he has a lot to do to meet his own standards. i would be afraid to pay until i saw the job done..............some of my neighbors were taken by roofing companies after some major storms a couple of years ago. they didn\'t lay down the material that goes beneath the shingles, did really shoddy substandard work and disappeared for points unknown.
one of the roofers came over, gave me a card and offered to bid on my roof. i took the card, looked the company up. they didn\'t have proper credentials by the state.......weren\'t bonded. i was like ........oh my lord, this is not going to end well for the people who used them.
i\'m glad you\'re careful...........i also understand that contractors have to eat, have family\'s to feed.......sigh. but i also have a lot of experience with the way they give you honeymoon treatment and then treat you like someone they are trying to divorce half way through the process of the job. lol........stand firm Max.................hope you feel well enough to get what you and your son need day to day.............big hugs, prayers going up! cheering for you from the sidelines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
