Life is full of curve balls, appreciate what you have while you have it.

This Christmas didn't really feel like christmas to me, I suppose it's partly because I was so sick all month, and then my best friend was hospitalized with a burst blood vessel inside a tumor he's had since he was a child. He went into the hospital one week ago today, Sunday December 22nd, I went there that evening to visit him, and then went back the next day, spent the entire day and stayed the night with him. I couldn't believe what had happened, one day he was perfectly fine, we were out christmas shopping together and were getting into the spirit of the holidays, and then he was sick and we thought he had food poisoning. By sunday he was completely disoriented, couldn't speak properly or comprehend anything, and his mom had struggled to wake him up, expelling all of her energy to get him out of bed and into the car to get to the hospital. In hind-sight, she realizes she should have called an ambulance, but she figured if she was able to drive him in, why would she call. I stayed with him part of Christmas Eve day, but Sunday night I only slept 5 hours, and they were poor quality at that, and monday night when I was in the hospital I slept maybe an hour cumulatively. I had plans for Christmas eve too, I could barely walk straight I was so sleep deprived and so sick, fighting a lung infection with no antibiotics. I still went to dinner, and it actually felt like Christmas.. I was with Daniel's family, my first love back from when I was 16, a fire that is being re-kindled. We're not officially together yet, hence I'm refraining from referring to him as my boyfriend, but come new years we will be making it official, and starting off the new year together. It was the only time it really felt like christmas.. his nieces and nephew were opening all their presents and it was so wonderful to see that childlike happiness, they are all so adorable. I really felt like a part of the family that night, it was such an amazing feeling..
Life was really put into perspective for me this year, people don't appreciate what they have when they have it, they only regret losing it after it's gone. I almost lost my best friend this year, and that's a thought that makes my heart ache with pain, but he's still here and I am so thankful for that. I am trying to appreciate what I have, because although I may have lost a lot of things in the past couple of years, I still have my family and my true friends by my side.
