Hip Dysplasia Surgery
I had the PAO Surgery (Periacetabular Osteotomy) Which is when they cut around the bone and reposition the socket basically and they put 3 screws in. The recovery is hard because I can't put any weight on it right now at least for another a week the surgery was June 4th and it's 4 weeks non weight bearing and 8 weeks of physical therapy. So what happened was I went in to the hospital they prepped me, explained everything that was going to happen and gave my mom and update on me every hour once I went in and then after they were done and after quite a few hours I woke up I was hungry but they wouldn't let me eat anything for the first day at least on the second day I was allowed to eat some jello and Ice chips and PT came and was coming to get me up this was on the second day their goal was just to get me sitting up and move to the chair that was right next to the bed, I got super nauseus cause of the heavy pain killers I was on and because of the pain that I threw up 4 times, I only remember throwing up twice though but I got told it was 4 times and after I was in the chair they decided that after that rough day I was definetly not getting to the PT room that day that was across the hall and I fell asleep and they gave me a nausea patch to put on behind my ear that works for 3 days. I was in the hospital for 5 days. Before I got up they did pull out the nerve blocker tube which burned but not as bad. Going to the PT room on the third day I had to have coke to settle my stomach each time I went so I wouldn't get nauseaus from the pain they started with the paraelle bars and that was painful I had only done a few steps the first time and then sat back down in the wheelchair they did PT twice a day once in the morning and then once in the afternoon when they came and got me in the afternoon I was doing better so I took more steps than last time with the bars that they decided to fit me for crutches but they had me practice with the walker first and then I went back to my room and layed down and fell asleep I was in a lot pain that night due to the moving around. One of the days it was either the second or third day they gave me morphine and another pain killer thing where they decided not to do that because I didn't wake up for hours and when they tried to wake me they couldn't that when i finally woke up they decided to put a heart monitor thing on me just to be safe which I was fine. The third day I was eating full meals. The fourth day I practiced with the crutches and with getting up and down the stairs with with them and then had gone back to my room and then the second time doing it in the afternoon I practiced again and on the 5th day in the morning they had me using the walker to walk to the physical therapy room and I walked the whole way there I had to put all my weight on my left cause I couldn't put any on my right cause that was the hip that had surgery and they let me sit down in the wheelchair for a bit before having to do the stairs and this time they had my mom help me with the stairs since it was the last day and they wanted to make sure she could help me with them so I got up and down the stairs and had to do it four times and then we went back to the room and they had to order the wheelchair so we had to stay there for a while and they had to explain all the medications they were sending home and the blood thinner shot i had to take and all the nurses were super super nice. One of the nurses actually had came in and said that he was really impressed and proud of me for how well and how much work I was putting into recovering. The surgeon that did my surgery checked on me every morning as well. For how the recovery has been since being home I've been using the walker and wheelchair and crutches I'm in bed a lot of the day because of not being able to put weight on it yet but I'm not taking any pain killers anymore for it and yes after being up to move it does hurt a lot and is sore but it gets a little better each day. Emotionally it's also been hard cause I can't be downstairs a lot cause it's really hard to get up the stairs when you can't put any weight on the other foot. I'm getting around as best as I can. I have post op coming up soon I'm healing well and I'm very thankful that the surgeon did a really good job and that the surgery went perfectly. It was a major surgery and it went well definetly not easy but recovering well and have got quite a lot stronger from having to use crutches and a walker that has been an upside to it is that with crutches and a walker you actually definetly get a workout. I hope anyone else who has gone through or is going through this kind of process of hip dysplasia that you stay strong and know it does get better each day.

omg u have been through so much, and what a great attitude about it all, Im really in awe of u, I know its a major surgery (I think I may have told u my mom had the hip surgery/ she was older than u so it takes longer to heal- its good that u did it while u are young and your bones mend quicker) u have the right attitude u will get stronger every day, and some days may be harder/ easier than others, be patient with yourself, the healing process is daunting, but Im glad to hear u are taking it all in stride, I wish u a speedy recovery :)
@cachetteen1 thanks! that means a lot.
