Her Story
So this is Sinza's story. I met Sinza's dad in 2006, eight years ago, through a work assignment. We immediately hit it off as good friends for about 5 years, then he asked me to be his girlfriend. I was just preparing to go to the UK to do my master's degree, so I said we put things off and if I got back and the possibility was still there, we could get together then.
After I completed my one year studies, I came home and he told me he still wanted me to be his girlfriend. I accepted, we were in love, I got pregnant, then he dropped the bombshell: while I was away, he had gotten married to someone else, she had delivered their baby (just before my return)and had gone to her mother's place to recuperate for her maternity leave (the reason why i had not seen her around for the past four months!).
So I moved out, rented my own place and started on my journey to single motherhood. I did everything I knew how, took her for antenatal care every month, got a new job with health insurance and maternity leave, ate a healthy diet, bought and read a ton of single motherhood books, did baby shopping, set up the nursery, played her classical music on the radio (to stimulate her brain growth), had a baby shower, picked out her names: Ellaine Sinza. Ellaine means a shining light, she was to be my light at the end of my dark tunnel. Sinza means to worship -it was prophetic for her to be a godly woman.
She was growing right on schedule and kicking and turning, until I went for the 38 week appointment, and there was no heartbeat. Then my world crushed. Friends and family came to my support, I was admitted in to deliver her, after 28 hours of labour, my perfectly beautiful baby girl made her silent entrance into the world. She was the mirror image of her mummy. The doctor said her placenta looked small for her age, perhaps it was why she died. Her dad resurfaced, he wanted to make sure her news did not reach his wife, so he organised a quick secret funeral for her at public cemetery near my home. I read the bible verse over her tiny coffin before she was lowered into her grave.
And now I sit in the silence of my house, and I miss my precious baby girl like crazy. She tells me she is happy in heaven. Everyday i wish I could join her there.
