Grief & Relaxation Zoom Call
I just partook in a zoom call which discussed the experience of relaxation while experiencing grief. It was quite enjoyable and insightful. I mentioned that I like to rest my mind and body in the bath, and one of the hosts commented that she does this in the dark. I love that idea. Allowing all the senses to relax, not forcing the mind or eyes to visually process anything. I'm going to try it sometime this week.
The session ended with a relaxation yoga pose, in which you lay on your back with a pillow under the knees, optional pillow under the head, a blanket on, and any supports around the rest of the body. Three deep breaths initiate, with calming music, and 20 minutes of the single pose. It's intentional relaxation and it was enjoyable - moreso than I anticipated.
It allowed for reflection, naturally. I pictured my mom, heard her voice, and realized I never truly grieved her. I wasn't allowed to. My family (mainly the one sister) didn't let me and I never fully processed the meaning of that loss. It's an interesting thought that arose during this session, something to consider further, later.
For future reference for myself, this zoom call was part of Caregiver 2021. Last year (didn't know about it at the time) it was called motherless mother's day, but it is now a month-long 'event' to recognize the loss of all caregivers. It begins at mother's day weekend and ends after father's day. My kinesiologist told me about it, but I intend to tell my therapist about it. So far I'm enjoying it.
