Gene's Eulogy
I've been wanting to put this in my journal for some time now, and today just seemed appropriate. I wrote this for Gene in the first days following his death. I read it at his services only by the grace of God's strength. A Mountain of a Man The earth shook the day he was born There was no holding him back He challenged every mountain And he never backed down. The earth shook when he walked He was a one-man stampede His presence arrived before you saw him He stood like a mountain. The earth shook the first time I saw him He was strong and proud and wise He looked at me and I was mesmerized Our love was strong as a mountain. The earth shook the day he left us We will never be the same again But he left us so much of himself That his memory will remain with each of us as strong as a mountain.
