Doctors
Well this is the day I get to go to the Doctors and tell him I have a problem with Alcohol. I'm feeling quite anxious about it, but I know it's a big step on my road to staying sober. This will most likely lead to counseling and some other sort of support. Could do with a hug this morning :)

So proud of you and I can\'t wait to hear how it goes:))))
This is a GOOD THING:)))
I remember that day. I cried. It was my pcp. Of course I tried to play it down as best I could while still saying I have a problem. After all I work with doctors and she is a doctor. They talk.
Depending on how bad they think it is. They will suggest rehab , scripts, counseling. Do you research on the scripts before you go if you have time. That way when they start shooting out names of stuff you can be knowledgeable. Look at what might be working for others. & then PLEASE by all means let me know if it WORKS!! oxox
I\'m back. Whoa! That was surprisingly easy after getting those first few words out. I was worried what\'s the best way to word it and after going through about 20 different vague beating about the bush versions of it. I just came right out with it. I\'ve got a serious drink problem and I need some help. She then went through all the details. Got some pills too which I will look up about before swallowing. Thanks Magpie2 for that advice. Also been to a volunteer cetre. Got a meeting with a rep next week to see what I can do :) - Busy morning over with. Phew!
Weight lifted. :)
Oh yeah. One less thing to worry about. Also I had a blood test a month or so ago because my blood pressure was on the rise. That came back clear. Which was a big relief too :)
So brave of you! Awesome!
I have just gotten a new, younger doctor in the last couple of years. Frustrated, at my annual checkup last year I told him I was having trouble stopping drinking. Was hoping he had a magic pill, but of course he did not. Really about all he suggested was AA, which I\'ve just never felt was for me - not really one for group activities, spirituality, etc. I told him that I thought I mainly drank to relieve anxiety, so he prescribed 50mg Sertraline, or Zoloft.
I \"may\" have noticed it improved my mood, but really just made me a more content drunk if anything! I\'ve been on it about a year, made a few feeble attempts to stop, but seldom even made the first week. For me, seems the real key has been shaking up other things in my life and staying busy so the absence of alcohol is not so obvious.
But to your point, just get it out. It will feel better once you tell him. My doctor was not judgmental, he just said it was not good. He is in TX near my Mom, so I will go see him once I am there. I look forward to being able to tell him that in fact I HAVE stopped. Perhaps can back off on the Zoloft at some point. I don\'t care to take something that is not really having a positive effect. I think he first put me on 25mg to get used to it, then bumped it up to 50mg, so I don\'t want to stop taking it without his approval.
Good luck with the Doc!
Thanks everyone. It was a big day for me today and it was nice to share it with my new friends on DS. Next milestone .one month witbout. Bring it on.....lol :)
Congrats on your bravery to talk with you doctor.
