Consequences
As everyone knows, I have been having a very tough time of PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety. I overdosed to feel pain, though about burning myself again to feel the same pain that I was feeling mentally. I told my therapist and she grabbed the Baker Act (civil commitment) and started to fill it out. I talked her out of it and I escaped being sent off to the psyche hospital. I had to text her daily to tell her that I was OK. My down psychological feeling got better after about a total of seven days. I see my therapist tomorrow. I did speak with my psychologist yesterday. He was also not happy. He wants to change my medication and the big one, he wants he go back to ECT (electro-shock therapy) every other week. That is a big change. It requires significant coordination by my family along with significant wait while I am undergoing the procedure (we get to the hospital at 0545). I usually am done by 1000. But they discharge me with a significant amount of anesthesia still in my system. I have a problem maintain consciousness in the wheelchair ride to the front of the hospital and on the way home in the car. I really need like two hours to get the anesthesia out of my system. I also know that they give me extra each time because I had a psychotic break after waking up. Became violent and had to be sedated and then tied to a bed.
Bottom line my psychological problem in the past two weeks brought me a lot of extra procedures, new drug regimes, and mistrust by my doctors. That was not my intention, I was hurting and was focused on myself.
I should have been Baker Acted.

Im so sorry to hear of these struggles. I have only had two surgeries in my life where I required Anesthesia but I remember feeling “off” as it wore off ... and I hope your doctor takes that into account with these treatments. I don’t know what to say that could help, only to offer support. I am sending good thoughts and prayers for gentle healing, and hope that you will see your great worth despite these obstacles. Rooting for you, Thor.
You were aware enough to not be baker acted. That in itself provides a measure for your continued path with recovering a balance that gives you movement in the healing of the brain and body.
Now, you are getting help in the direction of providing a more closely maintained medical treatment plan which in its own direction is proving to give you words to share the feelings, thoughts, emotions, and words as you are reaching out for help and acceptance and understanding.
Supporting you!
Hi Thor....sounds like you've been from hell and back with so many changes in meds and with dr's. I do wonder at the end of your post you wrote "I should have been Baker Acted. God knows no one likes to be in psy hospital, but if you were there could they give you the ect therapy and you wouldn't have to worry about being psychotic, or having the anesthesia in your system. I do hope and send good wishes for you and all who love you to find healing.
I've been Baker Acted twice for my PTSD, Thor.
I think it sounds like you have a good plan with your medical team Thor..... Big hug..... I'm glad that you're getting the help that you need.....xo
Hi Thor,
If ECT isn’t even providing satisfactory results, maybe you could look into Ketamine treatment. There seems to be some promising evidence of long term relief when nothing else works.
I'm so sorry to hear of all of your travails Thor, I'm hoping this leads to firmer ground and a winner's circle you can stand in. In the mean time be well...
Thor, sending you support and hugs. I really hope they find something that helps. You have been suffering way too much.
