BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER???
Recently denial has been lifted in my life. I married the man of my dreams 15 years ago...and we fought for custody of his then seven year old daughter. During the custody battle which started (1999) before we married, in 2000 against a diagnosed Borderline (BPD) and Narcissist mother who had two daughters by a previous marriage, one who showed signs of BPD the other seemed 'healthy'. Later, as time revealed to us all, the one daughter who exhibited no outward signs of stress by being raised by the BPD mom, became a raging schizophrenic. The other - the jury is still out, as she is functioning in the world but is not able to connect to her youngest sister, our daughter, my step daughter, but real daughter...as I never refer to her as a step child. Long long story. But I want to preface my experience today with the FACT that I have had this child in therapy since before she was awarded to her father and me in a full custody with limited visitation to the birth mother, facilitating from a police station for her entire young life. Now as I look back at these years...who was I kidding? How could this not effect our daughter? Her mom, the visitations and the DNA. But for all the endlessness of the therapy, I always projected the doctors were saying the other children didn't have a chance, but our daughter was SAVED...but this was PROJECTION. Kira is now 22 and spinning out of control. She is angry, she is self-sabotaging, she is lying, stealing, immoral and mean. She picks fights, pits people against one another and she has gone through 8 living places, 7 jobs - owned myriad animals and is tied up with a sub culture of human beings I can only describe as similar or lower than herself She is unkind to animals, she is seething mad at the drop of a hat, and she believes everyone else to be the cause of her life not working or inhibiting her freedom. Then when one gives her freedom, she says she is abandoned by her family and has lost her mom - (me) and the birth mom. But I digress. I did ask her to leave our home recently and I don't want her back under our roof. She is now scaring me, and I am worried for her health now more than ever. We consulted her doctor from her early childhood, and she confirmed we are dealing with a BPD and so far, we think she will agree to talk to this therapist - however, we believe her to be exhibiting the onset of schizophrenia and needs a MD, psychiatrist and we hope she will go. Anyway. I hope there is someone out there who will reply to this and I will reply to the only other board member I see in this group about their issue. Hanging in there.
