Blocks versus feeling an emotion to heal it.
I have been feeling heavy levels of anxiety leading to more exhaustion and burnout. On paper this makes sense.. it is a givein symptom from PTSD, Complex PTSD, trauma.... though I keep finding sources of information that tell me how to deal with anxiety... its difficult to find the root or the core of anxiety. How can I help heal the core of my anxiety.
But I did find one.... that talks about BLOCKS versus NEGATIVE EMOTIONS.
It says Negative emotions can be healed by feeling them entirely or writing them out. Blocks get worse when you feel them. Anxiety is one of those blocks so the more I feel it the more it is exacerbated.
There are 12 basically pure negative emotions: anger, sadness, sorrow, fear, embarressment, frustration, dissapointment, jealousy, hurt, shame and panic. Other emotions stem from these basic ones... The main reason we get stuck in blocks is we haven't fully felt some of these emotions. Feeling a block does not bring us back to ourselves but awareness of the block does.
I tried feeling and reflecting on each of these emotions last night and it did help my axiety lift away... like it was evaporating off of me slowly but it did help a lot.
These Blocks are:
1. Blame.
2. Depression.
3. Anxiety
4. Indifference
5. Judgement (seeing the negative in everything and in everyone)
6. Indecision (lose your strength to persist and find your direction)
7. Procrastination. This is not an act of self-love.
8. Prefectionism. Being disconnected from your innate ability to accept that you are not, cannot be perfect and cannot do everything perfectly.
9. Resentment. Closing your heart in this way, you forfeit your power to create.
10. Letting go of self-pitty. Disconnecting from your ability to see the successess and positive things in your life.
11. Confusion. Thinking we need the answers now, like we're missing something instead of being open to the answers that life can offer us along the way. Life is full of lessons.
12. Letting go of guilt. Unable to forgive our mistakes and love ourselves.
I have a few of these blocks, whether I can control where I ahve been stuck or not. Meaning some of them it just takes time to process some of these heavy negative emotions. And maybe 5/10 years from now I will have processed enough or new things will happen and they will need to be re-processed. I don't know but I do think as I feel the emotions versus the blocks more, particularly with journaling on each of these blocks I will be able to move through them more quickly.

After decades of therapy to heal my Trauma Induced Amnesia, I compare my memory blocks to dirty triage bandages applied hastily in the heat of combat. Triage bandages are not meant to last a lifetime. The longer you leave that dirty bandage on that open, uncleaned wound, the more opportunistic infections you can expect. Ripping those bandages off can hurt life a father fuck, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. The sooner begun, the sooner done.
None of the alternatives are funner than ripping off that dirty bandage.
hahaha a father fuck - I love that. Brilliant analogy.
I've worked through that list one by one, Con, I do remember each one's struggle vividly. The one I'm struggling with right now is that perfectionism. Argh.
Perfectionism is the worst isn't it? It makes sense why we all get stuck here... our culture did teach us this.
Yup, perfectionism is my downfall these days. I really do know how to make the perfect the enemy of the good. Jeez.
