bad day

While I was busy yesterday, wallowing in my own self pity,  My friend from work called me crying telling me she thinks she is going to be fired this week.  The owner of our companies wants to retire.  She decided a lawyer was a good replacement.  Now we are basically being run by lawyers.  Why would lawyers who make great money want to do this?  Probably because they sucked as lawyers is my guess.

Since they started, they have slowly begun replacing long time staff with people of their choice.  It's been a witch hunt.  She has been here longer than I have, about 12 years.  She works on weekends, even dragging her kids along if something needs to get taken care of.  She has basically been doing regional manager duties for a while although when she formally applied they denied her.

Not only did they deny her,  they went through her email with a fine toothed comb looking for policy violations.  In the end, all they could come up with is that she is too friendly with fellow employees to be regional.

The story of why she is going to get fired is horribly complicated.  A property manager, who recently was fired, is supposedly stalking the employees that turned her in.  The company is representing those girls in court to get a restraining order against her.  Those girls have apparently been bragging around their property to people, including our maintenance guys, that they know she didn't do it and that they are pretty sure it's an ex girlfriend.

My friend was asked to write a statement to support the manager who got fired, who is also related by marriage.  She felt it was only right to tell the truth as she had heard it.

Apparently, in court yesterday,  her boss ( who is a lying bastard that cannot even keep track of his own lies) told the court that he knows my friend goes through his office when he is not there looking for information to help the manager in question.  (stupid,  if you thought that why wouldn't you just lock your door)

After work last night, one of the maintenance guys called her and said they were investigating her now because she gave a statement.  He said they interrogated him so severely that he asked them if he needed a lawyer and then told him he better not talk to anyone about it.  Of course, being the loyal guy that he is...he told her they were out to get her now.

She was so upset when she called me, feeling that all she had done was tell the truth and that she had given so much to the company over the years.  I wished I could tell her that she was not going to get fired, but I know that's how things work around here.  I told her she should get an attorney but I know she won't  I feel terrible for her and I hate this place so much.

I was so angry last night that my heart was racing and I felt nauseated.  I couldn't stop pacing.  This morning I am still very angry but at least my heart has gone back to normal.

My boyfriend said he's got my back no matter what happens.  I just looked at him and didn't say a word.  One of the things we talked about 3 years ago when I moved back in was that he was going to clean up his credit and we were going to change our lives so that we were able to live on one income.  The plan was for us both to keep working but the second income would be extra.  I know this is a very tough thing to do in California, but he has not even tried.  Now that he got that judgement reduced on his check I bet he will not follow up on anything.  I cannot wait for school to start so that I will be gone from here in the middle of the day, and hopefully to busy to worry that I am next on the witch hunt.

Sorry this is happening. Work problems are the last thing an anxious person needs. And, it does not sound like you have a fully supportive partner. Will your schooling give you more or better work choices? Maybe you can start imagining a new you. Not much help, sorry. Hope things go better. I hope school gives you a happier place to spend some time.

I will have my A.S. in computer science. Not better here in the armpit of California, but hopefully in the next year or two will be getting out of this state. Arizona or Oregon probably. In school I am like the class mom usually and the usually the only girl in computer classes. I'm 47 going to school with mostly 20 year olds. LOL

Oh my goodness -- no wonder there are anxiety issues. I hope you are doing something special each day just for your health and peace of mind. Take special care.

Time to call an employment agent. Nobody should sit around waiting to be fired: get going fast. Get out before you're fired so that it's a resignation on your CV. If you stay, even if you're not fired, the climate is of distrust, fear and anxiety and things will go badly. Bad Juju. Nothing good comes of staying in a place with bad juju.

Your friend needs to brush up her CV, call an agent and get a wriggle on.
