my daughter
I did get some good news from my daughter, Rachel, but in order for it to make sense, I need to give you some background info about her.
She is 5'4", 110 lbs, small frame. She worked too hard at her former job at Kroger and damaged her spine pushing around an industrial floor buffer every night. In 2011 (the very day of Prince William's wedding) Rachel had to have surgery on her spine. She now sports two cadaver bones, a titanium plate, and three screws as part of her skeletal make-up- where the neck and shoulders meet. (the photo of her in the sweater I crocheted --- yeah, that titanium plate and those screws are holding her head to her body there --- betcha didn't know Mrs. Frankenstein looked that hot, didja???? I'm the momma. I can brag a little. )
When Rachel went back to work, the store manager ignored her limitations as indicated by her doctor and threatened to fire her if she didn't do as told. Little Miss Invincible followed orders and hurt herself again. She battled with Kroger and workman's comp for almost 2 years so that she could afford to see a specialist for this injury. Doctor #1 said she had a herniated disc and would need surgery again. Doctor #1 then referred her to a specialist in Paducah, KY. We were told that my daughter would have to make several trips to Paducah for treatment and that she would be unable to drive herself. I was bracing myself, not only for a second risky surgery for my only child, but also having to drive 35 miles to her house, and then another 75 miles on to Paducah and then back again. I can make the drive, but, heh, you know what it would do to me.
Rachel's 1st visit to the specialist was for consultation and transfer of medical records, so she was able to drive herself. There is no definite diagnoses yet, but the Paducah doc says there is a very good chance that this injury is not of her spine, but where her pelvic bone joins the spine. She may still have to have surgery, but it won't be nearly as risky, and I won't have to drive her back and forth for pre and post op visits.
Oh yeah, about my daughter: She saw this specialist on Wed., the 5th. We were in the midst of a double-whammy ice storm, so she just climbed up into her honkin' Ford F-250 and chewed ice and pavement all the way to Paducah and back. What a redneck. I didn't ask her if she had a pistol in the seat beside her.
I'm still lickin' my wounds and trying to figure out what to do about my situation, whatever that is. But, this news from my daughter takes one HUGE weight off of my mind. Mmmmmmm, yes, a prayer of thanksgiving is definitely in order!

There you go pilotrock, good things are already starting to happen for you . There\'s even a chance that your husband might have a change of plans and delay the move for now.He might be feeling lost in himself, and undecided. I\'m so happy this second surgery won\'t be risky! I can\'t believe her stupid manager forced her into doing something that could risk hurting herself again....and she did! I dunno. Up here, we call that lawsuit and get everything paid fer! Like pain and suffering. and abuse of power! That rat fink boss caused this. (possibly I have a need to blame. I dunno!) However, it\'s wonderful news that the second surgery will be less traumatic on her poor little body!! I would be thankful too. I only have one daughter....it\'s enough....ahem, but we mama bear seem to find a way to protect our kids. In your case the honkin Ford is the key! WOOT!!!
I\'m so glad you feel relief over this. Hopefully, after she has this second procedure, she can get a job where she isn\'t putting her back at risk for further injury. Bless her sweet heart!

So glad to hear of your good news! That\'s horrible how poorly she was treated at her job. I can imagine that was painful for you as her mom, to see her go through all of that. She sounds like she has your strength and fighting spirit though! Please keep us posted. Sending love, hugs and support dear friend!!
hey Nancy........praying for you! you\'re momma bear strong, i can feel how deep it runs in you..........praying for your daughter, she is feisty like you i can tell that too...........we have our times of confusion, but at the core we have faith ......God is in charge.........I went through a rough time not knowing what to do about my living situation for a long time.......and then God gave me peace about it, it wasn\'t the perfect decision for everyone, but I think it was the best decision for one disabled sick chick to make based on everything........
keep praying and thinking about options.....pros and cons........and vent as needed..............we\'re here and we care very much about you!!!!!!! xoxoxoxox
I am happy to hear you had some good news - you were due for some. I am so glad your daughter is full of \"girl power\" and is going to let something small like an ice storm keep her from her plans - LOL. I pray she can get some helpful answers from her doctors and find the help she needs without difficult surgery.
