Sometimes I feel like a broken record. Going on and on about something but stuff keeps happening that really bothers me. The worst part is I did it to myself. Its all my fault.Today at work a customer asked me what happened to my arms. Now, I had a therapy appointment last Tuesday and we discussed different ways to handle this question because I seem to get it a lot these days. Like I said, its my own fault. Anyway, the answer that I felt most comfortable using was simply "I don't feel like talking about it." My therapist made a great point as she always does. She pointed out to me that its my body and its no ones business what happened to it. I feel good about the answer and I feel good she reminded my that its my body and no ones business. What made today different is this guy looked at me after he asked what happened to my arms and said, "well, I'm sure it wasn't because your a cutter." as he makes cutting motions on his arm. I kept using my answer of "I don't want to talk about it." What really set me off is his comment that he was sure that whatever happened to me it wasn't because I was a cutter. What the fuck does he know? Do cutters have a certain look about them that set them apart from the rest of society? I wanted to look at him and say, "you know what, I am a cutter and you are making assumptions about something you clearly know nothing about." I know I've been really moody lately and I shouldn't let stuff like that bother me but he said it with other people in line within earshot of our conversation and it really bothered me. I don't know.

Your therapist is right. It\'s YOUR business and your business alone. People are way too nosey. Find a \"standard\" answer that you\'re comfy with and use it. Don\'t deviate from it, don\'t answer questions. Just one line to shut them up and if they persue you don\'t have to answer them.

People like that are rude and have no place to ask such personal and ridiculous questions. I\'m genuinely sorry this happened to you because as others have already stated, it is YOUR body and therefore none of that person\'s business. When people ask things like that I ask them if it will make them lose sleep at night if I don\'t give them an answer. That generally makes them realize that they crossed a line. (I\'m not saying that\'s what you should say though). What a terribly rude, ignorant individual.

some people can be so unconscious about their impulses. I am tempted to say he\'s a douchebag (which I think he is) but I think on another level he just doesn\'t know what he\'s doing. It\'s like he was all impulse and no heart. Scary! I am sorry you had to go through this. You deserve better and we support you.
