More and more people are asking about my scars on my forearms and I just don't know what to tell them. Mostly this happens at work. I jokingly tell them that I got in a fight with a bear or I was attacked by a cougar. I laugh and try to leave it alone but on at least two occasions they kept asking and I didn't know what to say other than "its a long story." I try to brush it off because I don't feel like explaining to them that these are self inflicted wounds and then they would look at me funny and ask why. Then I would have to explain that some people do this as a coping mechanism. You know what? I don't feel like explaining this shit to every fucking person who asks and its too fucking hot here to wear long sleeves all the fucking time. I just don't know what to tell these people without pissing them off and/or losing my job.

I am sorry to hear that Pagan. I don\'t know how I would handle it either. Just sending support and strength and patience for you to deal with this.

It\'s not their business. I think saying, \"It\'s a long story\" or something else even more vague is completely acceptable, and I would even encourage it. People are always trying to stick their nose where it doesn\'t belong. They want to know what happened to you, but they\'re not going to be there to support you now or later. Perhaps, I\'m jaded... probably, but this is my experience with people. ....just a thought, it might be dumb bc it just came to my mind, what if you say, \"oh, I was born with them\" and end the convo there?? idk. Or just tell them to their faces to piss the fuck off and mind their own business. Personally, I prefer the latter, but maybe not recommended to say to your boss.

I\'m sorry this is something you have going on right now. It must be so frustrating, to say the least.

I have scars too... and can see the look on people\'s faces when they see them.. see the initial bewilderment.... and then the judgement if it is a medical professional..... I had one friend say \"ugh.... scars\"... but didn\'t say any more.. I just felt total shame.... I spent years hiding my arm in case anyone commented .... but like you when it is hot it is not feasible... now if anyone asks I would tell them I used to self harm.. which is different I know.... but I so like \"it\'s a long story\" as it is none of anyone else\'s business... but I do hear you on how hard it is to deal with... I spent years trying to do the same

I am sorry you are having to deal with this right now Pagan.. I wish other people would mind their own business

I agree with \"it\'s a long story. I don\'t feel like going into it.\" Both statements, technically are true. Hugs my friend.

Hey...how about saying \"its a medical problem\" and leaving it at that. Start talking about something else....nice weather we\'re having, store is very crowded today isn\'t it?...are you paying by cash or credit card.
