Dear Daily Strength, I was diagnoised with Bipolar disorder, manic-depressive, rapid cycling, with OCD and psycotic features back in 1999. I was a member of the United States Army. I was immeadiatly discharged due to the severity but only rated at 30%disabled. For five years I struggled with different cocktails of meds and different medical facilities with in the military and Vetrans Administration. My wife, son and I were homeless for 2 years living off my daily labor income in a hotel room. Finally I came across a group of people that gave me some hope, the Disabled American Veterans, (DAV). At first they helped with food and some clothing when we were forced to move up north to Detroit MI. Some people may think that is not all that much, but when you suffer from the mood swings of Bipolar, something constant that your family can count on is really a blessing. They helped me re-file for disability from the VA and kept tabs on me and my doctor visits. Then one day one of them suggested this web site "Daily Strength .com. I joined Daily Strength (DS) in november of 2006 and immeadiatly found a place as simple as a website that let me know I was not alone. The "Hugs" were great and before I new it I had friends sending me messages nearly every day. I have been shown links to tools and sites that I share with my doctor, that have been vital to my treatment. I still stay in touch with the DAV and as often as I can say thanks and pass on the message of Daily Strength to Vets with a whole array of problems, drinking, drugs, addiction, rape. I try as often as I can to let people know what great things that the DAV and Daily Strength have done for me in things as simple as my day-to-day well being. To say I wish the military had a resource like Daily Strength would be a lie; they couldn't do as good as the original. I am in a good place with my Bipolar these days and Daily Strengths resources are a big reason for that. I can never forget the past and the DAV being there for me then, as well. For all those who have served and still serve in the US Military my American pride tells me to help out any way I can. Disabled American Veterans and Daily Strength are just two ways I do, for the freedoms they give, so I can.Sincerely Cpl. Tim *****US Army (ret)
