12 Steps and Where I'm At
We admitted we were powerless over gambling – that our lives had become unmanageable.
Complete. My life had definitely become unmanageable while gambling.
Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to a normal way of thinking and living.
Complete. I believe that God, my therapist, my significant other, and support groups like DS can get me back to a normal way of thinking and living.
Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of this Power of our own understanding.
Complete. I have turned over my finances to my significant other. I have turned over reporting my time to him as well so he knows where I am honestly at during certain evenings when I am not home.
Made a searching and fearless moral and financial inventory of ourselves.
Incomplete. I know social anxiety, feelings of worthlessness, competing with others, disdain for certain others, and tying my self-worth into my profession all trigger gambling. But I don't know if this searching is "fearless". I would say "no" thus far.
Admitted to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
Complete. My therapist and my significant other and my mother know.
Were entirely ready to have these defects of character removed.
Incomplete. I still miss it from time to time. I still have hopes that someday I can play again. I still miss it.
Humbly asked God (of our understanding) to remove our shortcomings.
Incomplete. I should ask this, but I don't think I'm ready. Like I said, I still have hopes that someday I can play again. And I need to get over this.
Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
Incomplete. Some of this will be tricky.
Make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
Incomplete.
Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
Complete. I've always been good at owning up to things.
Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
Incomplete. See above.
Having made an effort to practice these principles in all our affairs, we tried to carry this message to other compulsive gamblers.
Complete. Love DS.
