Ha. My ex N. ignored my birthdays at all, stating that birthdays are just reminders that we get older and he does not see any reason to celebrate it. The most I could get from him is a text message on my birthday: XO. That is it.
So, what the hell I was thinking too?

Iasked him to spare me the expensive gifts for my birthday, all I wanted was a card. Geez, you'd think I was aking for the moon. I didn't get a card. I got an expensive piece of jewellery that he didn't even pick out. He's so clueless, he so knew nothing about me.

How on earth can a man tell you "forget about getting smth from me???" this is selfish and totally puts HIM in control. If he knows that you like flowers then he should give them to you. First of all, he should be aware of your needs and not thinking only of his own.
You deserve to have a knock on your door every day with flowers. I have already told you that I guess ;)

It is also the behaviour of a self-absorbed child. We do things for the ones we love EVEN IF we don't get it. I would have liked to have received more flowers. I hinted (and later was just direct) about how much I love receiving flowers. I bought them for myself regularly after a while. He knew and did buy them for me once or twice but I get it. Why wouldn't he make that effort for a few dollars if he knew it would make my day. The card thing I totally get--it's the personal message inside. My ex failed here too. He would often make a little card (okay, no problem) and then sign it from him and his daughter with zero romantic message. I felt like a neighbour getting a little cute card from the kid next door--Valentines and everything. He missed it. It almost made me cry the emptiness in that. This year for my bday we were broken up but still in limbo (as in him leading me along with hope and us occasionally spending an hour or two together), he took me out for my bday in the morning (breakfast) as I was leaving later to pick my daughter up at the airport. He came, no card and gave me a chocolate bar and then took me out. A chocolate bar? Are you f----g kidding me? Nothing would have been better than a chocolate bar. It is a kind that I like, only available at one store so there was an effort to get it but holy f---. A card would have been LOVELY.

These things yank them out of their yucky little comfort zones.

No Valentine's, Birthdays, got one present for Christmas. Perfume. I finally got rid of it. Made me feel cheap. He didn't even remember giving it to me. ugh

Miss Mom I can't believe your post, my N H used those exact same words with me...I'm kind of in shock right now. And OlechkaMoor, I have yet to receive a gift for any occasion.....and we have been together for 23 years!!!

lol yep i got a bottle of gin for my birthday... even though i am not drinking much any more.... then he got mad cause i wouldn't drink it....he took it home the following day lol what an idiot..... he also would not go to events that were important to me..... i paddle in the dragon boat races he didnt go this year.... or last year... when i told him i felt bad he accused me of being pissed... i said 'no im not pissed just disappoined' he insisted that he does not like dragon boats so would never go to watch me... why should he??? dick head... cause it woulda been nice to have someone watch and root me on..... whatever.... that was one of the straws that broke the camel back (it takes many straws for me to get it... from now on i a going to end things after the first straw breaks the camels back,, poor camel keeps getting his back broke over and over lol) he picked me a clover once, remebered i like to use small forks once, gave me a knickknack once, and a plaque with a stupid saying about cats once, (the knickknack and plaque were from rummage sales, probably the free bin.... ick
