The weekend is like the full moon for a werewolf. He becomes a totally different person. Nothing else will satisfy him.
He won't see a counselor, so I have to walk him through his decision making. We have come up with so many combinations. Still, it remains the most vulnerable time.
Right now I am withholding sex. The next step is to stop talking to him completely for shock value. Has anyone had success with these methods?
Agreed -- weekends are the worst! How crazy is that. Most folks live for the weekends, then dread Mondays. There was a time when I looked forward to him being home. Now it feels like reality comes crashing down when he enters the door.
I've really limited conversations with my AH, to benign topics, as much as possible. I do this not to control anything he's doing, but to give my head some space from him. My AH is not at all working on any sort of recovery. Conversations with him go no where. So I avoid conversations as a way to keep my own sanity.
Our family (kids, myself and his father) coerced him to go to therapy and IOP rehab. It did nothing. Now I am thinking maybe the therapy should be for me. AH wasn't interested in getting himself better, so it was all a waste of money. But I am very interested in healing for myself. Have you done any counseling for yourself, with someone who specializes in families of addiction? That's what I'm looking into.
I think it's important to remember that there's nothing you can do to make him change, no matter how much you love him. He has to want to change himself. However, you can support any positive changes he makes and lead by example and work on your own mental health. That's what I'm trying, anyway. I hope both of your weekends are better than you expect. And I agree, I get weekend anxiety!!
I understand what both of you are saying. Rehab would definitely be best, but he's not mentally there yet. Still he wants to be better and he is working on it in his own way and making progress.
I have never had counseling with an addict counselor, just a regular one. That should be the next step. I definitely want to get a professionals opinion.
Now I handle it in ways that I feel protect me as best I can. We don't have children yet, so that helps me have time to sort through the bs and work on a better marriage.
It's comforting to know I'm not alone on weekend anxiety. Everyone else is having so much fun and I can never relax on that level. It's such a lonely place.
Glad I joined this form! It has really helped me put things in perspective. Regular friends just don't get it and don't want to be bothered quite frankly.
Godsplan, my regular friends don't really get it either. And I feel like I've been wearing them out on the subject of having an A husband. No one understands. It's very lonely. Sending hugs.
I'm new to this group and feel a little relief that there are other women who deal with the same situations day in and day out. I too also dread the weekends, as soon as Friday comes my anxiety levels rise and everything comes to repeat once again with my AH. I look forward to another work week just to have some peace.

Good luck to you. I hope your weekend improves.
