I am so glad to have found this group. Every single post that I have read shows me I am not alone. There is a place to go to and vent. How sad and immensely heartbreaking. We have common ground. And the ground under me is crumbling. i am so far passed trying to fix him. I have cried myself to sleep far too many nights and watched my children suffer the same effects I did as a child. The silence, the explosive arguments, the pretending. Someone on here mentioned having energy when her AH was gone for long periods of time, yes that is true. And when he's home your energy level and desire to do anything vanishes into thin air. I call it the soul sucker. My AH has been successful in breaking my spirit. I cannot seriously say I love the man anymore. I blame him for everything wrong in our lives-that's got to change. He gets to be drunk, loud and obnoxious and put all the clean up on everyone else. Our kids are now young adults and guess what- some drink.
I come home from work to find that my kids had a gathering of other kids at my house. They were all drinking. My AH played concerned but loved every minute. My AH fancies himself as a 16 year old. Anyways, I wasn't happy about this and was made to feel very awkward and left my home-yes, left my home. I'm to a point that I feel like I'm the odd one out, I don't belong. I hate drinkers, it makes me sick. It's done nothing but follow me around and destroy whatever foundation I ever had. I don't know what to do but then I do. Being married to an alcoholic all of these years only makes me dread what life I have left. I say this because I believe that the second part of my life will be filled with a sick husband with liver problems. I can't. Does this make me heartless?
So these days I work, come home and go to the gym, it's been a God send to take some of my anger out in this way. It sucks when you want to run and have not many choices.
I feel you on the wanting to run but not having many options. I am so sorry you had to leave your own home. When I come home from work and he's drunk I want to do the same. And that hurts me even more. Because I'm not the problem. He is.
I also feel like I can never love him again...almost 14 years of lies and manipulation. I have young children and don't want to end the family. I feel like I can't wait for the day I can let it all out and then just finally leave! I too worry that he will fall ill with a long term issue and there is NO way I could take care of him, I can't stand being around him, it zaps me of all my good stuff. It is so hard to think of kicking him out, I feel like my friends think it is a no brainer.
Thanks for sharing. It is nice to have others to relate to. I need to join a gym!
Mine is the same way. It's always my fault for making an issue of it because there's nothing wrong with what he's doing in his mind Thank you again for sharing.
Hi Dolly,
I am so sorry. And especially so for how his behavior has now affected your kids. My AH used to joke about taking our kids out to the bar on their 21st birthdays, and make me out to be an incredible kill-joy for objecting. He thought it was funny to make me look prudish, instead of being a responsible parent and want better for his children than what he was living. It's just sick and they don't deserve to wear the label of parent. My AH thinks he young and hip, too. He's nearly 60 and he recently signed up for a "young" business people social group. I got such a laugh out of that one, as I just know what all of the truly "young" people were thinking -- "hey, what's this old man doing here." Your AH is not fooling a single person, and all of your kids' friends know it deep down.
I hate being around drinkers now, too. To me, they all look foolish and that sickens me. It took me several months of therapy to realize that I simply don't want to live with someone who drinks, and I believe that that is enough. Just because they choose to drink does not mean that we have to stay for it.
I pray that your kids learn quickly that they do not want to follow their father's path. Sending hugs and strength to you.
