My partner doesn't drink all the time, but when he does, he can't stop. He cals out of work 1, 2+ days in a row to recover, but spends that time drinking even more. I call these binges. He binges maybe twice a month, then apologizes, and is "fine" for a couple weeks, until it starts again. Long story short, I know I have to leave. But I don't know how. We live together and I love him. He just doesn't love himself, and I can't have a future with someone I feel unsafe with. How do I leave?
I know this is so hard. I've lost count of how many times I lost my nerve.
I've never done it, but thinking of trying alanon. That may be a safe place to get some support and advice. I wish you luck, please put yourself first.
Thank you @cadeer for reminding me to put myself first. I have neglected my needs for so long so that I could take care of all of his. He hasn't been home in coming on 4 days now because of his most recent bender. I can't do it anymore.
Does anyone know of any legal resources to get out of a lease with an alcoholic/ addict?
You are not alone... And you can do it. Easier said than done, I know... As I just recently removed myself and 2 kids from a similar situation about 2 weeks ago.
