My AH won't drink in front of my mother. So I've found myself coming up with reasons for her to come stay with us for a few days at a time a couple times a month. He is on his best behavior when she is here. It's so weird. She knows because I tell her that he's not sober but he's convinced she's in the dark and he must be on his best behavior. It's sad that I am using my mother for some peace and sobriety (my AH is a binge drinker so it's not every day but when he drinks, he goes all out..). I've started talking to her about moving in with us! I couldn't do that to her...she shouldn't have to live with his crazy....but its tempting... I just know he'd break his rule if she were here all the time.
I just wish I had the answer. I know I don't. I know it's not my problem to solve (thank you al-anon), but on nights like tonight when he's coming down from a binge in preparation for a visit from my mom....it's hard to not dream.
Stay strong ladies. Sending positive thoughts and prayers to all of you...
You are distracting yourself. First with his behavior, next with you mother. Are you in al-anon or a co-dependents group. The hardest thing for me when I left the marriage was now having no "fix" from him. If I wasn't focused on him, his decisions, his drinking I felt lost. I went through withdrawal just like a junky. It wasn't until over a year before I could now look at my own life and what I needed to do, My grandmother lived obsessed with her angry husband, my mother lived obsessed with her addict husband... isn't this the way we are supposed to live.
Every time you thoughts are on somebody else, they are not on you. They can't be two places at the same time.
