Someone brought this up in another thread (can't find the post right now) and I wondered if this were a common problem. My AH's alcohol abuse really skyrocketed in the last 6 to 8 months and twice he's woken up in the night and peed in an inappropriate place. (Claims it's a "sleep-walking" problem he has... funny, he never sleep-walked before in our 20 year relationship.)
First time was about 2.5 months ago. Were were in a little camping cabin that had two cots (kids slept in a tent outside). He had been drinking heavily all day. I woke in the night to find him standing over me peeing on me! He woke easily when I spoke to him. That was fun....NOT.
Second time was last night. I woke to splashing noise and KNEW what it was. Sure enough, he was standing in a corner of our room, peeing. He'd had a bit to drink that day, but not as much as usual I must admit. Anyway, again, he woke easily when I called out his name.
This is an interesting topic. Just in the past month or so, my husband - who I would say has, easily, been in the alcoholic category for 25+ years - woke up in the middle of the night, mumbling (fortunately alerting me to wake up!). Once he went to the other end of our bedroom and was posturing to pee, and I said, "Honey, that's not the bathroom." He said, "I was going to the girl's bathroom". I said, "That's not the girl's bathroom either!"..and steered him to the proper place... Another time, I found him in the closet getting ready to pee. Of course, both times I said something to him the next morning - he claims I was making it up!! Yeah..because I have THAT MUCH time on my hands to come up with creative story telling sessions....PLEASE!!
My husband has a nasty habit of peeing frequently in the kitchen sink during and after his marathon drinking. I don't want urine in or near my kitchen so he tries to do it when he thinks I'm not looking. The problem is I can also hear this distinctive sound.
My soon to be ex-AH has acted like he was going to pee in places during the night but I usually stopped him. But he has another issue controlling the other function. I have gone to change the sheets at least 3 times now within the last year with him messing his pants and the sheets. I told him last time I'm not doing it anymore if he wants to sleep in shit then he can. Do you know it was almost 2 months before he changed the sheets? I sleep on the couch and have been for over a year. I know this has been an issue for a while now because he has soiled his pants many times while awake because he can't make the bathroom. Also I know when he has done it because even though he just did his laundry two days before he is doing it again so I know something is up.
The other thing I can relate is constant repeating of his stories. I swear he only talks about 3 different things maybe 4. One the messy house, two the kids and how lazy they are, three work, work and work and how stupid management is because no one can run a business better than he can and 4 how drunk so in so was at the bar last night. Man that guy looked like an idiot. Well apparently he has never seen himself in the mirror because he sure looks like one to me to. And the snoring OMG have to turn the tv up even though he's in way across the house. I'm so happy this will soon be over that's if he will ever leave the house. He said he's not moving. We'll see about that.
I'm so glad to see this post. Thought this was just my dirty little secret...My AH woke me up one night while peeing the bed. I was disgusted and he had the nerve to get mad at me because I called him on it! I mean, come on...then he didn't want to clean up his mess. Too bad, he did it!
He's also having to pee in parking lots, trees, and gets mad if I won't pull over on the freeway so he can pee!
Mackdaddy, I don't know how you handles the shit. I'm pretty sure I would have become homicidal...
What is it it? Does Alcohol cause them to revert to a 2 yr old? Oh wait, I already know the answere to that!
There's nothing worse (to me, anyway) than waking up with your husband facing your back and the whole back of you is soaked. Did he wet the bed? Not according to HIM. He claims I must have done it. If I had done it my underwear would have been soaked, not just my back!!! Needless to say, I no longer sleep in the same bed since he won't quit drinking and I like to wake up dry!!!
Mine was sleeping facing my back...I woke up (more than once) with my back drenched in urine... how disgusting is that? If that wasn't bad enough, when I pointed it out to him, he actually accused ME of wetting the bed!!! Hey Bucko, if that was the case my crotch would be wet and it wasn't. Like everything else, it's never his fault, never.
You know the more I read everyones blogs it amazes me how identical all alcoholics are. It's almost like they are cloned so many different personalities but each one does exactly the same thing. We all seem to have lived identical lives with these guys. Amazing.
I know this is weird that I am replying to this thread 6 years down the road, but I have had a weird experience with peeing in the night. I am a single man and I usually drink an average 64 oz. of high gravity beer each night. Enough to satisfy me and give me a good night sleep. However, since I have been on vacation this past week, I have upped my alcohol content to around 96 oz. of beer each night. I've never had any peeing in inappropriate places problems until now. The first time was the other day when I woke up to damp carpet beside my bed. When I stepped in it, I thought, what the hell? Did I spill something? There was no other evidence that I could have. It wasn't saturated, just really damp. Then last night, I woke up and the top of my dresser drawer was soaked and my alarm clock stopped working because it was also saturated. But, weirdly enough, the carpet around the dresser wasn't wet at all As I cleaned everything, I kept thinking, wtf, is this urine? I looked at my ceiling for leaks. There was none. I'm only replying to this as I am really weirded out right now. This has never happened to me before. I am a very clean person and I can't imagine my sub conscience taking over like this.
Omg yes!!..Too many times I have been woken up to my AH peeing in corners and off our staircase. So rediculous and no remorse the next day when I tell him what he's done. Not to mention how disgusting it us to have to clean up a grown man's pee. As I clean it up I ask myself "is this what I deserve"?..So mentally draining. I pray everyday for better.
My husband does this also, I thought it was only him! It usually happens when he has had too much to drink and little sleep. I have woken to find him peeing on the floor, inside the refrigerator, and in the trash can. Could not ever get a good night sleep because I had to keep one eye open to stop him from peeing on the floor. He refuses to get help for his drinking. He says he drinks to kill the pain from his CMT. We are separated now and likely headed for divorce.

Definitely a toddler thing!
