my partner is a binge drinker, and its gradually and gradually becoming more and more unbearable. we have been together over 10 years and have 1 child together. hes always liked a drink and would go on a blow out every few weeks etc, like what you would expect of a man in his twentys. hes now mid 30’s and binges at least 2/3 times a week, he feels its improving because the last 3/4 times hes actually managed to get home, ive put up with months and months of him disappearing all night, going on benders for up to 5 days at a time when things are really bad. weve been seeing a councellor which has now stopped, he refuses to go to AA. He is a really nice, kind person and good father when hes not drinking and he never gets drunk infront of our son. which makes it really hard to leave as as soon as he sobers up and becomes normal again life is ok.
I know i cant put up with it for much longer but really dont know what to do now as if i do leave i will be back at my mum and dads, i am financially dependent on him and like i say we do have a nice life inbetween all the madness of his drinking. he says he wants to change but doesnt want to go to AA, says hes trying everything he can do to minimise stress as he thinks that this is what triggers it, but i know he has a full blown problem and needs help. just waiting for him to wake up and realise this too!! hes gone 3 weeks without a drink before when we were away, but being at home he cant go longer than a week.
