I have a question about withdrawals. My ah has never stopped drinking long enough to see any of the 'obvious' withdrawal symptoms (tremors, stomach ache). However I wondered if he was going through withdrawals in the mornings. Before he would leave for work he would be a complete asshole. Like accusing me of weird stuff (having a 'secret' contact list on my phone cuz I got a weather alert at 3 am one time but he says someone was texting me and when he looked at my phone he couldn't find a text from anyone so I had a secret list). Or on his way to work he would bitch text me. He would be an absolute jerk some mornings. Any thoughts?
YES...My husband is a functional alcoholic...He actually just started rehab. When he is drinking he is a funny happy relaxed guy{.usually starts drinking after work but can put away an 18 pack of beer in a few hours.} When he gets up in the morning I can not do anything right. I so much want to see him stop drinking but I also dont want him to turn into what he is in the morning hours. He is a Vietnam Vet who suffers from Ptsd,,I so want him Happy and healthy.
Much of that is a withdrawal in the sense of him not being able/willing to drink before going to work. He's grouchy because he hasn't had a drink or knows he can't have a drink. My AH is like that when he tries to stay sober for a day or two. He's so grouchy, everyone's afraid to be around him. It's like walking on eggshells. You can ask a simple question, and he sentences you to death with his glare or his sarcasm in return. My AH has never made adultery type accusations. It's just that he's an absolute bear and a real jerk.
Yes, my husband was always a complete jerk and control freak in the mornings. I would go to great lengths to avoid him on weekdays, sometimes driving the car to the kids' bus stop (to give the appearance I had left for work) and returning to the house to get ready for work after he left. Sometimes I'd go to Walmart for just two items, just to fake like I'd gone to work and could return to the house and finish getting ready. I knew if he saw me, he'd interrupt what I was doing and demand something totally unreasonable that he could do for himself - nevermind that I had just gotten the kids off to school all by myself and still had to go to my own job. All the sneaking around I did, for years! So exhausting.
Sound like my husband just out of the blue he get very gray looking and unfriendly. Nothing is right
everything I say has a negative effect. Si I just try to avoid him as much as possible. Then of course he
says I dont want to spend any time with him. I guess he is right wen he is in those moods no one does.
I havent had a job for the last two year{wish I had} The way I deal with it is to stay up past when he goes to bed and then sleep in in the morning. He is semi retired so he only works 12 to 4 in the afternoon then comes home with his 18 pack.,the hours from 5 to nine is usually the most pleasant for me. I know as crazy as it sounds he so much fun to be with when he is drinking. He doesnt get wasted..he just gets mellow.,But he will not go any where in the evenings unless there will be alcohol there. Most of the time If I want his company it is at home in front of the tv.while he ponds his beer..He is in re hab now,if he turns into that morning person 24 hours a day I dont think I will be able to handle it.
Change is hard on both of us when my husband slows down on his drinking he is like a sore tail cat ...everything
bothers him even a small conversation. He is no fun to be aroynd. But now itbdoes not seem to matter he is always in a foul mood. I hate to ask him because I feel im putting pressure on him so I wind up doing thins myself.

Yeah, it's pretty sad when you ask them a simple question, and all they can do is barely manage to mumble an answer - even when they're sober - like you're not worth wasting my breath on. Or when you ask a simple question, like, "Do you like that new foam mattress topper on the bed," and all they can do is grunt or just ignore you because you don't deserve a response. That's the way my husband has been toward me for many months now. I figure he's not worth talking to because it's a one-sided conversation. And he gets mad when I spend time on the phone talking to my friends. He can't seem to figure out why I would bother to waste my time on them and not him!
