I went to an ALANON meeting today and feel a little relieved. My AH has been in a rehab for over a month now, and I’ve been struggling with a lot of thoughts in my head resentment, fear, anger, and some some anxiety. I went out to see him this past weekend scared to death of the outcome, but I feel like there’s still some hope and I realized that I’m just as sick as he is because of this disease we’re dealing with. I really felt heard by him for the first time in a very long time. We talked, wept, and embarrassed, and he really never realized just how much we’ve suffered from his addiction too. It really put things into perspective for the both of us. The ALANON meeting was a result from the visit and I’m happy I went. I really just wanted to feel connected with other people and not feel alone in this, but also try to get a handle on my emotions. I have a lot of work to do, but I’m willing to do it for the sake of our family. I’ve come from an alcoholic family growing up and now married to one I can see how I missed all of the signs. Sometimes you need to open up to others in order to heal, and I hope and pray for the best.
Thanks me too. I’m keeping my hopes up and staying positive. Sober AH is a great man and I hope he stays that way.
I enjoyed the group meeting I’m desperate for change and the therapists told me if we wanted to give our family a chance we’d all have to work on ourselves and really work our programs...so I’m trying.
Hi Faith, I hope it all goes well for you.
as sweetie pie mentioned, the ral test will be when he comes out onto the real world. My other half was doing so well in rehab, he wrote, opened up and talked about things he'd never talked about before. I thought it was a real breakthrough and I had such hopes. Too many in fact. I had ideolized that place and somehow expected him to come back completely changed. The day before he came out, I was overcome by a huge anxiety and he ended up drinking on his first night back. He pushed through, went to meetings for the first month or so but I could smell alcohol on his breath when he returned home. Slowly but surely, his old friend was back into our lives. I don't want to sound negative, all I'm trying to say is do not make the same mistake I did. I got no support and just assumed he would come out 'cured'. Don't set unrealistic expectations as I did. I swore I would never allow him drunk into our home again and yet here we are again :(
I tried Alanon and now feel better coping with my ah better on my own. Alan on sure gives us the strenth.
