Wives of Alcoholics Community Group
A forum of healing and help for wives of alcoholics.
I'm new to this group. I've talked to my friends about this, but thought it might help to talk with others who are going through the same thing. My boyfriend and I have been together for over 8 years and we have lived together for 6. We were both fairly heavy drinkers when we first got together so I never really thought about his drinking at that time. As I got closer to 30 I decided I wanted to change my habits and started to work towards getting healthy...started eating better, going to the gym and cut back on drinking. Now I'm going on 33 and hardly drink at all anymore. My boyfriend is drinking more than ever it seems. I have talked to him about cutting back if not stop entirely but it just ends up in a fight. He blames me for it and says I'm cheating on him...which I have never done. Somehow he makes me feel like crap and I think that's why I keep giving our relationship another chance. I keep thinking that maybe there's something I can do that will make things better. He doesn't drink much during the week...usually. He works and he has to be up early in the morning. Sometimes though he will drink too much and have to miss work...this has happened about 6 times so far this year. He drinks every weekend and is sometimes unable to do anything during the day cause he has to sleep off the alcohol. Last weekend I went out of town for the day and when I came home he was drunk and hadn't eaten all day. Today he went out for lunch with his dad but was still drunk from last night. We are supposed to do some shopping together and he has been locked in the bathroom for over 3 hours and I'm pretty sure he's drinking in there. I have caught him passed out in the bathroom before with a beer in his hand. Sometimes he'll disappear for hours at a time and come back drunk. He'll just go for walks late at night by the river here. Sometimes he'll go to the bar by himself and come home drunk and not be able to work the next day. Sometimes he'll go out with friends and get drunk, but usually it's by himself and that is why I'm getting more and more concerned. He says he'll cut back and he can do it on his own, but doesn't seem like he can. He'll cut back for maybe a week or two and then it's worse than ever. I want to stick by him, but also feel that I may be enabling him by him living with me and I pay for pretty much everything. He'll give me a few hundred dollars here and there, but that's it. Just don't know what to do anymore. Thanks for listening to my rant...any advice or comments are welcome.

Hi. This is my first post. I'm here because my husband is an addict and it's having a negative impact on our marriage and my emotional and mental well being. He's an alcoholic who is also addicted to pornography and video gaming. He spends every moment that he isn't at work or sleeping drinking beer, playing his video games, and looking at porn. He's completely pushed me out of his life. We don't...
I've been married for 28 years. I'm at the end of the line now. My partner knows he has a problem and is getting help but the drinking is escalating not improving. I'm not really prepared to live with the anxiety anymore. He needs to be well and i deserve better. So do you. We're all scared of the unknown but better to have a future over which you have some control on your own than one which you don't together. Put yourself first.
A chance for you to see how you feel without him in your physical spaces every day. It can also be the wake up call that he needs to take stock of where his priorities lie.
You have changed ( a lot - and big congratulations on that) and he has not....at least not in parallel ways or positive ones.
You have a whole life ahead of you. Best wishes.
