So my partner and I have been together for 20 years. We were both 18 when we met and have a beautiful daughter who turns 6 in a few months. He was always a drinker but the last year was pure horror. He lost his grip and I was left with a vile, horrible man who came home drunk from work each day, smuggled in vodka which he hid in every possible corner of the house. It started to have an effect on our little one and I hated that more than what it was doing to me. The thought of her realising that her dad was not very nice but most importantly her thinking this was OK for him to treat me like this just horrified me. I his his cards, picked him up from work, basically tried to control his drinking on his behalf, which we all know is in vain. One night he spat on me and I kicked him out. Something happened in me that night and I decided that enough was enough. I called his parents to let them know, called my family, and my friends and let it all out. I then rang a therapist who worked with me for three weeks to help me see more clearly. He refused help, even reading about it was too much for him, he was basically in complete denial. He drank every day whilst my mum was here which was pure hell so I asked him to leave and told him it was over. I took my daughter away for a week and he hit what they call rock bottom to the point where he had to call the samaritains. I was no longer there to care for him and enable him. I told him that he should look for his own place and even started making appointments for flat viewings. He knew I meant business. Never in a million years did I think he would accept to go to rehab. He has been there one month, doing really well, opening up and comes out on Monday. And I'm terrified...
