Hubby got a call from Hepatology Registrar today to say the Fibroscan Friday confirms he has Cirrhosis now. She needs him to repeat a couple of blood tests, as he still has really high iron levels as well. She has told him to stop drinking, but his own dr has always told him not to do that, as that might kill him, as he has been drinking for so long?
The registrar has arranged to meet with him 21/1/2021 to discuss his options and prognosis. I dont think it has sunk in with him, as to how serious this is?
Have any of you got experience of your other halves having Cirrhosis? Any advice?

Dick Van Dyke’s path to sobriety was a turning point in his life and career. Here’s what happened:How He Got SoberStruggles and Realization: Van Dyke began drinking as a teenager, largely to cope with shyness and social anxiety. Alcohol made him feel more comfortable in social settings, but over time, his drinking spiraled out of control. By his mid-40s, he recognized that he had an addictive...

The news I have is the liver can repair itself if it’s given the chance. My tests were normal after a year not pouring alcohol on my liver.
It was basically the fact that I had so much alcohol in my system I was producing enzymes and they were digesting my organs.
I tell anybody that will listen it is never too late.
The thing is my wife finally stopped enabling. I suggest making life as much of a pain as possible. Wake him up early. Don’t do any laundry , don’t do his dishes.
The only way an alcoholic will change is it the pain of quitting is LESS than the pain of drinking.
The ah will only get sober if he wants it. Honestly the best medicine is ignore the ah. We hate that. Just act like we don’t exist. Sure as hell don’t pamper us. Why get help when life is great?

Otherwise make sure his will is up to date and in a safe place.
How long has he been drinking?
I know for my AH he probably he would drink even more if he ever gets a diagnosis due to him not being able to properly handle stress in his life..thats why he drink in the first place. Anyway take care and I wish you nothing but the best of luck
My hubby is the same and does not cope when things go wrong and always drinks more during stress or loss.
I am not sure that he actually wants to stop drinking
I try my best to look after myself, but lockdown has made it harder, as I am with hubby 24/7 now. I do go for a walk with the dogs and am bubbled up with one of my daughters.
Hubby had a CT scan Monday 18th, yesterday he got a letter from his Dr dated Tues 19th, saying that she had the results of his CT scan already !! Not sure if that means it is good or bad news?. He has a tel appt with her tmrw to discuss the results.
Then he is seeing the Hepatologists next week 28th. Hopefully we will know more then about his condition and prognosis?
thanks
Mum glad we are here to support you emotionally.
Hubby is seeing the Hepatologist 28th Jan. He has said that he is going to have to give up drinking, but that he is going to need help. He says he is going to ask the specialists for help to stop drinking.
I have had a down day today. That us very unusual for me, but I am going with it,as my body obviously needs some down time today. So I have vegged on the sofa watching tv and comfort eating. Hopefully tmrw will be a new day and I will have more energy. Like I say it's very unlike me to be like this.
Thanks for your ongoing support
