Your Birthday! Yes, YOU!!!

With the arrival of each birthday, most of us have said, "I can't believe I'm (fill in the blank) years old! I'm OLD!!!"

Years ago (many) we used to celebrate our birthdays together in the office where I worked. Each year we'd hear the familiar phrase, "I'm so OLD now!"

My perspective is this - we are still young each birthday we have. On each birthday I remember back 10 years and think, "Back then I thought I was SO OLD!" How silly that was because I'm 10 years older NOW and I'm old." But think again, 10 years from now you'll look back to this year's birthday and think "GOSH, I WAS YOUNG THEN!!!"

So, a new perspective on your age. When you are 50, say, "Gosh I'm still young!" because when you are 60 you'll look back and say, "Gosh I was young then!"

We might as well enjoy being YOUNG always!!!

I remember very well when my best friend's mother turned 36. I thought how old that was! None of my birthdays got to me except when I turned 30. I was really down about it and my boss (a social worker) made it funny by bringing me articles about turning older. After 30 I gave up worrying about age. I'm 62 now and still can't believe I'm that old. I guess I don't feel that old (except some days) and that's what counts! Take care, Sandra

Thanks for this light-hearted, positive Topic! And like Nannyjean , I remember when my best friend and I shook our heads in disbelief that we were going to be "30" that summer?! On a good day, we still talk as if we're 20 years old, but then the reality of actually being 73 sets in later on again. Keeping a sense of humor can make us feel a lot younger, right? (It's not always easy, I know.)
For me, I'm now lived decades longer than any of my closest family members. We have to be thankful for each day and year...they are priceless gifts.

I'm always talking about how "old" I am (65 and about to turn 66 within days). One day it hit me: If you think "old", you will be. I still mention it, too often for my liking, but until I look in a mirror, I feel "young." How young, depends on what I'm doing.

I think of my Darrell and how he physically looked his age but how "young at heart" he always was, and that puts a huge smile on my face.

Until he died, even in the ICU for 16 days and being unable to speak because of intubation or write because of excessively swollen hands, he was still able to smile at something funny one of the nurses would throw out there. And, how boyish he looked then - and young.

He is my inspiration for staying "young." And, smiling and laughing, which lighten our hearts, which then lighten our loads, help us to stay young and vibrant.
