Today wasn't any better than any other day....last nght I cried from the moment I got home to the moment I fell asleep,....in the wee hours of the morning....nothing unusual about that. I had a day at work listening to another person in the office be so negative about everything...we got new, modern. sleek telephones, and she didn't like the ringer, the handset hurt her ear, and the screen didn't list the telephone number and she was too new to know other people's extensions (after eight months of working there she still calls herself new). This person was rude to her, that person didn't tell her what she needed to know....on and on. If she could think just a bit about how lucky she is to have a normal life.....But you know what, Here I am, and I made it to another day, and I didn't keep all that negativity inside like I usually do by sharing it with you guys. Thanks for the encouragement, the support, the friendship, and the kindness. Hugs of gratitude to all, and I hope your day had at least one smile in it.

Go right ahead and vent! That's what we're here for. And your co-worker makes me think of something my husband used to say about people like that...."It must be awful to live inside her head." Venting here is great---keeps you out of trouble at work!!! :-) I know I was "clueless" until my husband died--but hopefully not as clueless as some of the people I have encountered.

When I read about your co-worker's minor woe's I was reminded of something Stan's grandpa used to say when some one was whining---You'd bitch if you were hung with a new rope.

Some days are like that for us. Sounds like ALL days are like that for your co-worker. Amazing how OUR eyes are open to such pettiness, but what a way we've had to learn, huh? It does wear on you...ugh! Keep on sharing that negativity (positivity works, too :) ). We all have our days...

just wondering if you could use a headset and listen to some music instead. Probably not, too bad, you could have cut the negativity and float in some nice melody.
Isn't this nice, to some here and express your feelings, and find understanding and support?

Sorry you had a rough day and as you know some people are just negative about everything.........it bothered me before but now it just drives me crazy now that we have things in perspective......
Coming here to vent is a good thing as we all understand....hopefully tommorrow will be a better day............hugs

Some people.......! I never say it , but I always think, may this be the worst thing to happen to you , when people complain about what's in my mind petty things. With what we have to go through, it puts everything into prospective, doesn't it? I often remind myself too, that even when our problems seem insurmountable, other's still have it worse.

I work in the same kind of environment. If they weren't spouting negativity, the place would be silent. Drives me crazy! I'm learning to tune it all out. I use selective hearing. Sometimes they just don't think I can hear them. lol

I refuse to get involved in a conversation about trivial complaints.

Being a member here has such wonderful advantages. We can vent, rage, "scream" at the things that hurt us. Maybe your co-worker has no place to vent. Also, you may not know of her pain in her life. Many things are hidden behind our "masks". Maybe a prayer for her would help both of you? Good luck!

Your coworker sounds terrible - I don't know if I could handle anymore negative thoughts. Maybe you could encourage her to look for another job where she would be happier. I think sometimes that some people just aren't happy unless they are unhappy. I am sorry you had to put up with it. Hugs, Jo

Nice to know it's ok to feel whatever I feel, and you know what? It's ok for her to feel whatever she feels too, but it's up to me how I let it affect me, right? I'll keep repeating that to myself....but I think it will always bother me now to think of how much people take for granted....don't think I'll ever get around that. I worked with someone like that. And she would corner me and go on and on and on with a long string of negativity, and she just wouldn't shut up. It was hard enough to put on the fake smile on a typical day, but with her in my face giving a litany of everything that was wrong with the office and her life and so forth - all the while totally oblivious that I was just barely hanging on without bursting into tears on a GOOD day - it got to be too much. For my own self preservation I would tell her I had to go. She would keep talking. I finally just started walking away - leaving her mid negative sentence. I had to.

Sometimes for your own sake, you have to separate yourself from the people who will bring you down. I think Jo is right - suggest she find somewhere she would be more happy. That usually shuts them up.
