Oh how I can relate ... which circuit breaker does what, how to change the timer on the hotwater heater, why is the brand new air conditioner setting off the water alarm, better yet why is it leaking, etc. etc.

As I recall, Nicker, you have wonderful neighbors - as do I. I thank God for them every day for looking out for me.

i too, try to figure out things my husband always fixed. I may have helped, but he always had the knowledge...what to do?...its frustrating at times, that i don't know things he did...

It's no better from this side:

How on earth do you balance a checkbook?
When is it that I prune the trees?
What goes into that awesome spaghetti sauce?
Where IS my windbreaker anyway!!!

Oh my goodness, this is so true. Things go wrong, I look at the kids and say 'This is one of those things your Dad knew how to do, so we are just going to figure it out!" and we do. But, it is hard without him.

Hey Pete, thanks for the reminder, it is not just us females having a hard time.

I too have trouble with DYI but I am sure Mike would have had some trying times too if the situation was reversed. He could never quite master the tv-vcr-dvd combo and don't even get me started on the his computer skills.

I had a hard time figuring out all the electronics in the house, especially the computers, which Mike was very skilled at tackling. Norton this, and update this, and back up the files where?? Thank God for my daughters and their boyfriends. They've given me crash courses on what I need to know, and believe me, now I listen and learn. I wish I was this interested when Mike was here. Oh well, I'm coming a long way baby!

At first it was a struggle keeping up all the things that Mike used to do. But now I'm skilled in maintaining the gas lawn mower, use a few power tools, know where all the water shut off valves are, etc. It's amazing how well we adapt when we have to. I'd still like to have him here to do all those things, but I'm grateful that I have been able to hold down the fort.

Boy the things we took for granted and now have to figure out. Sometimes I think that is what causes me to be angry that he died. I just always assumed that he would be here for me. but we do learn to be strong and I usually manage with a little help from my kids and BIL. Diane

I've learned a lot too - I just wish I wouldn't have to. Rich spoiled me so much. But since I have no choice I've learned a lot of new things. I'm blessed with children that help whenever they can also

Funny how each couple divides up who does what.. My husband did most of the cooking and the lawn. I really don't bother with cooking much now. However I have had to get multiple instructions from my neighbor on how to use weed eater and other such things... It is very easy to get overwhelmed learning what our other half did effortlessly. Sigh... If only....
