I'm posting this as an interesting conversation.
I have a dear friend that lost her husband about 8 years ago, she has been helping guide me through this journey, she has provided me a lot of insight. I bumped into her at an alumni work event (she retired recently), the next day she sent me a message.
I know youre not looking for a relationship but now that you are getting out and around I want to tell you some realities you are going to encounter. Demographically, in the over 50 population, there are a whole lot more single women alive than single men -- way more. So, a single man like you, smart, attractive, and a widower, is in very high demand. If you think about it, it makes sense. Of the three categories of single men you have never married (usually unprepared for a relationship), divorced (from one to many times, ick) or a man who was so special that a woman stayed with him for 20, 30 or 40 years. Truly the gold standard of single men.
Regardless of if you are looking or not, lots and lots of women will soon be throwing themselves at you. You may get to feeling like a commodity, but that may give you that feeling of being wanted. Just a reminder, you are really vulnerable right now and cant assess whether someone is right for you -- no matter how perfect she may try to make you think she is.
It gave me a chuckle, never thought of myself as a commodity.
