Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
I also joined a ladies gym. The exercise helped mentally and physically. Try different activities. Do whatever it takes to be busy.
It's not an easy road to travel. You will feel better in time. Be kind to yourself. Buy yourself flowers. Eat good food. Take the best care of yourself that you can. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love and Hugs, Dolores
I do go to gym and that gives me some comfort. I do go to card games etc and some other groups that I belong to. But I feel different there. I am fine for some time and then I start getting anxious and feel like I need to leave. I do not leave but do not enjoy it then. Maybe what we lack is some purpose in life. Before , in a way, our spouses were our anchor, our purpose. I guess i need some new purpose in life. Gym, ladies groups I did before too. Upkeep of house is my job now - my husband used to do a lot of maintenance of the house or getting someone to do it was his responsibility. I find it hard to look for someone to do such work. I do not have confidence that I am choosing the right person to do the job, so I keep putting off the jobs that need to be done. Small things like unclogging drains etc I have tackled with help of YouTube. I constantly worry that things are going to go wrong with the house or appliances. I never worried about these things before. My husband took care of those things. And of course I miss the companionship. Sorry, I am just rambling on. Is this self- pity?
As far as your husband's things, everything that was his is now YOURS. You don't have to get rid of anything that is YOURS. You can if you want to, of course, but don't let anyone tell you what your grief timetable is supposed to be.
Don't give up. You are getting stronger every day even when it doesn't feel like it.
Love and Hugs,
Martha
Im with you. Lost my partner of 24 years
in Feb. You can
I lost my love of 24 years in feb
Web are all different in our grief process
I expect to be in shock for at least 6 months, deeper grieving for far longer. This is normal! If you have a deep love, chances are your heart is broken and its gonna be a marathon. The good news is that your capacity for pain is equal to your capacity for joy. You will be ok, its just old joy. right now.
