I pray to God and talk to my husband; both sometimes silently, sometimes out loud; depends. Prayers are not always answered, or may not be answered the way we think they should be, but when I pray, I feel like God is listening. The death of my husband strengthened my faith in God, and I am grateful for that.

I pray to God. I know some Catholics pray to saints and others. I pray in Jesus Name. Guidance comes from the Holy Spirit. I'm still working on understanding the trinity but I'm a believer. I'm waiting to talk to my husband who is in Heaven.

If your thoughts and prayers work like mine, then its all three. I figure God and my wife will figure it out, and for me its kind of a peace of mind thing and it helps me. So just keep talking, and if anyone see you doing that, they will just think you have an ear piece and talking on a cell phone :).

When I pray, I pray to God in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ...I ask for His strength, guidance, grace, mercy, love, peace and comfort and lots more... to help me through this journey. He is so truly faithful and is amazing!

I believe He is Sovereign (In Control of all things) and although not everything that happens is the way I want it to be, I know I can trust Him and His eternal plan. I certainly prayed for Him to heal my sweet husband on this earth.... but He took Bob home to Heaven and now Bob is healed. (And I KNOW we will be together again someday in Heaven!!!) Even though we prayed for healing here on earth, I trust because God is Sovereign and my trust & hope is in HIM!

I find myself saying little things to Bob occasionally. Especially if I see a photo of us or remember things we've done together. But, I don't pray to him. I just miss & love him immensely!!!!

Dear Missing Taki...I totally understand what you are saying. My response to the original post was to hopefully answer the questions that were asked. I am Lutheran. My husband was sick for a very long time. As time went on he did get worse of course. He prayed daily that God would take him. He did not want to die, but he could not bear the pain and misery each day brought and asked God to relieve him from his misery. It took a long time, about a year, before God sent his angels to bring my husband home. It was pretty horrific to watch him die in my hands. Point being, I am not mad at God. Things could have gone so much worse. It was, in hindsight, a well orchastrated plan for his leaving us. We were married for 41 years, he was only 64. When I think of what could have happened, I praise God for how he worked things out. As his body was shutting down, he was mumbling something that I could not understand. He said it twice. I thought he might have been telling me good bye, or that he loved me, but I now believe he was talking to whom ever was sent to escort him to his new home in heaven. It was a plan that none of us there could have changed. My mind was in a place of "lights out" and I think it was God's mercy on me while I tried to deal with what I had just whittnessed. Mad at God? Never. He answered my husband's prayers when the time was right for Him, not us. Talking to God, to your loved one, or just yourself is the right thing to do for all of us on this grief journey. I am still having a hard time after 5 months. I am apparently, avoiding my grief , which I have discovered by my daughters comments. I have my Pastor coming up to talk and pray with me so that I can start acknowledging what needs to be acknowledged. I have learned so much from reading all the DS posts. I respect and love all of you in this grief journey. I wish all of you peace when you have come to welcome it. We all do that at different time frames. Thanks for listening. Peace to you. caw0910

I pray to God, believing God hears me. I talk to my late husband, hoping he hears me,or at least gets the message by whatever means is used on the "other side". I talk to myself to clarify my thoughts. Recently I find myself trying to listen to God more, and get the message, instead of just doing all of the talking. Hugs, laurabp

as i sit here reading these posts, the tears are streaming down my face. They are indeed tears of sadness for what might have been. Yet I know when I pray God hears me...I don't think I would have as much peace as I do if I didn't believe that. I also talk to Mike at times. Sometimes I laugh about things that I remember that he would say or do ... and sometimes I cry...I mingle words to Mike in my prayers at times, but I don't pray TO him...that's reserved for God.

One of the best scriptures to help with this is found in Romans 8:26 & 27..."and the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don't even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will."

It is uncanny how much I feel like the rest of you. I talk to God, but I also taalk to my darling and know I'll se him again. As far as God taking people's lives - it isn't true. This is a fallen world we are in and it is not God's will that anyone die. But God does take our souls when we die. I know I'll see my darling again!

This post really touched my heart and soul. I know that after my husband passed I found myself praying more than I had ever. I prayed every night for God to send me his holy spirit in the form of the comforter to help me get thru the day and though I sometimes felt I was on the journey alone, I knew that he was there. The poem about walking on the sand describes how I felt. The man is walking and there are two sets of footprints. Then there are crazy footprints and finally one set. God tells him the two sets are when they walked together, the crazy ones are when they danced together and the one set is when he carried the man. God understands our feeling that he is not with us in times like these. I think we need to remember that he promised never to leave us and he always keeps his promises. When we feel like we are alone, we are not. God is working his great plan for our lives. God will carry us until the time we are strong enough to pick up the pieces of our fragmented lives and go on. I pray to God and I talk with my husband. Thank you for this post because I think we all need reminders from time to time that we truly are not alone in this journey.

I have learned that we pray to God the Eternal Father in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ. I like to think of it as a Judge and Attorney. Jesus Christ is my Advocate, and my husband is by His side. Hugs~Shelley

as a widower of 3 months the earlier posts ring so real to me ..i found this prayer on the internet,...heavenly father you give comfort to those who believe in you,listen to me as i pray to you,be my joy in my grief and victory in my failures,as i embrace your will for this altered state of life,console me with hope and certainty that the parting of my beloved spouse is only temporary, that she/he is still with me,caring for me,helping me in you Lord,and lovingly awaits for that day when we will be reunited again in our heavenly home,help me to move on in your truth and love as my Divine Partner..1 day all our tears of sorrow will be turned to tears of joy..God bless and strength to all..

I am talking to God, but often find I wander off the beaten path and am talking to my husband.

Either way I believe God understands, listens, and sends the context for my husband over his way.
