Hi-I am finding that if I can get out and run 3 miles, although not a cure all, it helps when I'm feeling depressed. Also, I like music, most genre's are okay.
At the risk of sounding "smaltzy" I like Herb Alpert, some of his music is so soothing to me.(Some of you may be too young to remember who he is). I feel whatever works-if hearing pots and pans clang together (like my 2 year old Granddaughter likes to provide) then so be it!
For some of us, meditation, prayer, reading-for me is has to be something.
What gives you comfort?

For the first two years I lived on a farm so my comfort was mostly walking in the woods. After moving back to big city life with my parents my comforts are talking with my special friend, water aerobics (great stress reliever), growing some tomatoes and herb's.

Riding the Harley on a lonely coast road in the middle of the night...where the road is about 30-feet from the edge of a 200-foot cliff that disappears in the fog...you can't see it, which makes it a little spooky, but you can smell the salt sea air...the thunder of the engine pays tribute to the awesome everything that God has created, just for us...in that moment, you know where you fit in the universe.

runner55, I'm glad to hear more people like smooth jazz...nothing like it to get the kinks out!

So many good suggestions. I do a long walk first thing in the morning which helps. I find that knitting is calming, and also find that reading occupies my mind when it needs to be distracted. I find that things that are new to me work better (like baking) because they do not carry unpleasant memory triggers.

I enjoy scuba diving. When i am underwater and just hear the sound of my own breathing, I feel at one with the ocean and with nature. It brings me such peace.
