Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
As for staying busy . . . another option. Why not get in your truck and drive, as you mentioned . . take a day trip somewhere that feels special to you. Or simply drive and leave the woes on the pavement behind you while listening to your fave tunes. ?? Be inventive as you are in the midst of being forced to "re-invent" self as a singular.
Tough journey we are on . . . all of us. Sorry for a lil tough love attitude . . . I think I'm getting tired of all of the sugar coating, so let's cut to the chase of the matter. Grief sucks, loss sucks . . we can't change the reality that has been dropped in our respective laps. We either choose to move on as we can and are able to (baby steps, one moment, one day at a time) . . . or we choose to live a life of quiet desperation indefinitely.
With that said, I am truly sorry for your recent loss. Again, it's not an easy journey . . many have travailed the path before us and have survived. This is our promise and reason to have faith in the process. We can and will survive this grief and grow through the process beyond imagination.
My deepest condolences and best wishes to you on this shared journey. xo, Dayna
thank you!!
He would buy me something that I could KEEP......like a figurine of a bunny [I love bunnies], they're so easy to find because of Easter. And, what woman doesn't love jewelry?
I love drives near the coast. I live near the pacific coast and the Oregon coast is one of the most glorious! Go to Depot Bay, Oregon and have a bowl of clam chowder........Better yet, come and get me I'll go with you! I'm a great traveler and so is Horton!
We're all in this together......it makes me feel better to realize and know that there are many, many people like you and me who don't have anyone special in their lives........
May I take this time to wish you and ALL my DS friends an EASY VALENTINE'S DAY
Roz
I'm having a group of widows and widowers over for a Chinese take out and games night. I just didn't want to be home alone, crying into my wine. Also didn't want to be out and about, seeing all the couples.
Funny, but my LH never made a fuss of me at Valentines - didn't believe in the commercialism. I just wish I had him back to give him a hug and kiss on the day...
" I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with you. And then I realized... you spent the rest of your life with me. I smile because I know you loved me till the day you went away and will keep loving me till the day we're together again. "
A little sad but uplifting in a way too. Be good to yourself, Liz.
As for me --we never really celebrated it. I always saw it as a commercial holiday and nothing more. I was the one to convince my husband to switch to my side of things. Therefore, he would pick a regular day and send me flowers and make it romantic. I appreciated it so much becaus I knew it wasn't driven by some stores expectations. I feel the same for all holidays, often buying presents on days that have no meaning.
Now, that my husband, mother, and play-sister are all gone, I'm grateful for the pain I'm not suffering around the holidays.
My husband and I never really paid attention to Valentines day. This year, his orchids that I have neglected and left outside is now blooming beautifully, so I think it is blooming for me from him, double nice, as if he is sending me a message.
I will make the best of this day babysitting my nearly 2 year old grandson. He makes me smile. He is my new Valentine.
