With past holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) I found that the dreaded anticipation was worse than the day. I fully anticipated having a bad Valentine's. But it was far worse than I could have imagined.
Valentine's Day last year was the day that I brought my Baby into the ER. He had been complaining of pain that would not go away. It was getting worse. Tylenol, Aleve, Phillips, Immodium...nothing was working. Valentine's was Sunday, so his Dr. office was closed. When I said I'd take him to ER and he said "OK" my heart dropped. He NEVER wanted to go to the hospital. So I knew it was bad.
This year...2 weeks ago I had to take my Dad to the ER. He's been in the hospital since the 3rd, but he is making some improvement. It has been an emotional and physical strain on me and my mother. Some time last week I began to notice that my husband's dog, Amber, was not quite herself. Not eating heartily, runny poops. But with my dad, I didn't have time to pay it much attention. On Thursday, she stopped eating. My brother came on Friday, so he could take my mom to see dad. I called the vet on Saturday and brought Amber in. He immediately gave a grave prognosis. Liver and kidneys, but held out hope that with meds she might pull through.
Amber died last night at 6:15pm. My son and I and the other dogs were on our way to the vet, because they had called and said she'd taken a turn and would not make it. We were on our way, with her bed and blanket and favorite things to be with her, but we were too late.
I am so very sad. At least she's with Powell, who loved her so very very much. They were best buds and now they're together.
Valentine's Day could not have been any worse.

To Powellswife, I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved dog. I am sending you a big hug.
Deborah, Accidents do happen but I am so sorry this happened to you.
Hug, Donna
Watched an old DVD of him when he was playing in this really tight blues band...and the reality of never (in this life) just curling up next to him with my head on his chest...him stroking my hair...hit. Cried as hard as when I lost him.
Trying to re-focus today. I was so lucky. Luckier than most. Some people live their whole lives and never have the kind of love we shared.
Today is another day.
I was surprised at the relief I felt, I did not realize I was that up tight about all of it. My attorney told Me I was a trooper, I did real good, gave me a good compliment on how I handled this for last 5 months, I said Yeah I did not kill them or you so thats good news, he laughed and said very good. Its over, Thur or Sun I gave them to pick up their "SHIT" and guess what its snowing like mad, it has not snowed here for two months....but previous snow all gone so could not get that deep
"I am truly truly sorry for all the pain everyone has had to endure in handling their loss of their loved ones especially as days likes Valentines Day "the love day" goes by"
For all the newbies, I am fairly new at this 6 months 15 days, the fog period, the every day crying period, the angry period, the what the "blank" do I do now period, and all the rest - as I read the posts from those years out I do have some hope and I do try to read those posts on my down days" I simply want to say I do not know what I would have done or what I would do without this sight.
SO I hope today after is so so much better
I wish I knew some of you were close to me so I could have a party,
