This Is So Hard

Deb here. Although I was not married to my friend that passed 2 and 1/2 weeks ago I loved him very much. He was my ex boyfriend and best friend. We went thru a lot together. We spoke every day several times a day and saw each other several times a month. I can't even imagine the pain you all must be going thru having lived with your partners. Sometimes I feel quilty that I am so heartbroken because he was not my husband and my x boyfriend ( we split because of his illness, he couldn't handle the pressure of a full time girlfriend) But we never really stopped loving each other, and I was there for him until the end.  I just can't believe he is gone and I can never speak with him or see him again. I am going to work and functioning, but the pain is so overwheming at times. I  have lost both my parents but somehow this is different and impacting me in such a hard heartbreaking way....

You don't have to be married to feel the grief. Its the deep love that we had that makes it hurt so bad. A part of you has been ripped away. I am so sorry for your loss. We are here for you.

Oh Deb, don't discount your love or your relationship. You loved each other pure and simple. Your pain is no less than the all the rest of us. Love knows neither time nor distance. Be thankful that you found love in whatever parameters the two of you allowed it to be. Cherish that love that you did have. It doesn't need a piece of paper or a mutual address to be real. Allow yourself to grief him. Nothing, I mean nothing, for you to feel guilty about. Feelings and emotions have no right or wrong. They just are. You'll be okay, it just takes a very long time. ~~~ Scottie
