Hi,

We seem to be getting a lot of love trolls lately. If you're not a widow, a widower, or a bereaved partner, then please go elsewhere. The members of this group are mourning a great loss - they are not here "looking for love."

For our members who do belong here, please think twice about whose friendship you accept and encourage. I found a guy who hasn't posted a single word anywhere on the site, doesn't belong to our group so apparently not bereaved, and yet has been accepted as a friend by no less than 10 ladies here. He is only friending women, no guys. These are all red flags.

I don't accept friend requests until I know something about the person and why they are here. 99-1/2% of the people here are genuine and mean no harm. It's that tiny minority that can be creepy. Some stumble onto Daily Strength thinking it's another dating site, like Plenty of Fish or something, so they may not be malicious, just confused. However, there are some though who look for vulnerable people who are lonely and lost so that they can take advantage of them.

I know who you mean Martha as I have gotten several friend requests from this guy who I deny each time because I checked him out as I do everyone before I accept. Also, he has sent messages to me that are very “familiar” if you will. The problem is that he hasn’t technically done anything wrong as like you said, he hasn’t posted anything. I have noticed several of my friends have friended him who I will notify. For those of you who do friend someone that you don’t want to be friends with anymore or you are suspicious of, you can unfriend them. There is an edit button near the top of your friends list. You can press that and you will see that you have the choice to remove them as friends...just press remove. Thanks Martha for the warning as this guy has been on my radar for a week now. Everyone please be careful and please be aware of who you are friending and especially private messaging!

If you receive a message that is overly familiar, as Darcie puts it so well, report them. DS can then check their messages, and generally those types send out dozens of those messages, so DS bans them. It is abuse.

Yes, I was fooled and accepted the friend request. Then I received an inappropriate greeting. He's now unfriended. Thanks for the warning. As you say most people are sincerely seeking help but the others need to go somewhere else. Dolores

Thank you for the warnings everyone. it is always good to know there are friends watching out for the "overly friendly" I/ we sometimes want to help so much that I forget to check out the request. I have not yet been solicited on here but I have been on facebook. They stalk the widow/ widower looking to take advantage. I swear some think that Widow means "stupid, rich, and easily fooled" in all reality we are the ones who see things differently that most. Most on this site are our extended family. Hugs to all

Yes, i too, being newer, am another victim of lawrence. I don't know how to unfriend friend him but i when i try to edit my friends, he is no longer there. Do i still have to do anything to remove him? thank you for the warning. I really value the genuine people here who are widows/widowers like me. Sometimes, loneliness makes us willing to trust people. It's sad to know that people will use our grief as a way to toy with our feelings.

Sweet Mas, please cut yourself a break on this. I think that Grief has a built-in fog machine that keeps us engulfed in a mist that effects our brain function.
I've had many, many "Duh??" moments since widowhood. The latest was yesterday when I found myself putting a bottle of dishwashing liquid into the refrigerator!
